I was deferred - post your responses

3.0 UW GPA and a 1530/1600 SAT Score (800 M, 730 CR)

i have all the normal extracurriculars that most people who apply to gtown have... captain of mock trial, captain of model un, editor in chief of yearbook, yada yada yada

Georgetown was my number one choice but I'm not that mad that I was deferred since I know I'm going to have a LOT of fun where ever I go!
(i've applied to 6 schools EA and will apply to over 10 schools RD)

thoughts/comments/rejected or accepted?

thanks-

I was deferred from the college
2270/1540 SAT, top 10% (at least) in class, robotics world champion, vp science olympiad, over 500 community service hours, mostly from volunteering at a hospice.
Oh well. I think I need a pep talk really badly at this point.

3.0 GPA won’t get it done… I would encourage you in that 1.) You already statistically have a 10% chance of getting in the second round. But you probably have a higher chance considering your stats. And 2.) You can still submit more material.

I was deferred too. 4.2 UW and 3.9 W, 9th in my class, Student Body President, National Honor Society President and active in tons of other clubs. Over 400 hours of community service and I spent my summer studying on Georgetown’s campus.
Also in need of a serious pep talk…

Deferred…3.8 UW/4.3 W GPA, 2240/1440 SAT. Solid SAT 2s (800, 790, 740, 730) and a good ACT (34). Solid ECs.

Also deferred.

3.5 UW GPA, 4.1 W GPA
34 ACT
Great ECs
Great essays
etc.

Very upset.

Me too, but life goes on. I was really really upset but there’s nothing I can do. It was probably my SATs/subject tests that did it. I have a 4.7 W and good grades/essays/recs, or at least I thought so.

Time will just have to tell, keep breathing everyone!

Also deferred…
2320 SAT (800 CR, 720 Math, 800 Writing)
SAT IIs all in the 700s
4.3 W GPA (out of 4.5)
Varsity golf captain for two years, Editor in chief of school newspaper, class leadership council, head scriptwriter for choir department Madrigal show, figure skater for 12 years, all the rest (NHS, NMS commended student, AP scholar with distinction)
Volunteer with national golf program for underprivileged kids and Kindergarten helper.
Job at local country club as banquet server and hostess throughout the school year and summer.
What I thought were solid essays and recs…

I guess I’m just another white, upper-middle class girl from Connecticut…?

It’s not a roadblock, just a speed bump. :)

Deferred: 4.564 GPA (4.0 UW), somewhere around 6th in my class of 193, 1460/1600 (790 CR, 670 M), 32 ACT, white female, catholic high school

However, my college counselor said that he heard straight from the dean of admissions that they do not consider the October scores in which case I only had a 1340/1600 for my SAT score. I’m a bit more optimistic about round two! Not excited about the wait :/

Deferred 1500/1600 SAT (720 CR, 780 Math)
93 UW/ 97.6 W, top 5%
3 sport athlete for 4 years with 10 varsity seasons. I got a lot of awards and stuff for volleyball
thought my essays were good… maybe not since I got deferred

I wish they rejected applicants early. If they did, I’d know where I stood. I can be near the top of their considerations for deferred students, or I can be one of the first they chose to reject. AGHH!!! What can I do??

I was, unfortunately, deferred (MSB) as well. 33 ACT, Top 2%, tons of leadership, good ECs, 11 AP’s (all 5’s so far), great essays, good recs… How does georgetown respond to the whole “write a letter to plead for acceptance after being deferred EA” thing ??

Deferred from SFS
SAT: 2280/1480
ACT: 33
UW GPA: 3.71
WGPA: 4.27
Lots of international relations-related ECs w/ leadership, two (at least what I thought were) very impressive internships, I thought my essays were good, great recs, great interview.

I think my GPA is what killed me. Like most of us, I was expecting a deferral, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing, does it…

Deferred also.

GPA: 93.5 (UW)
ACT: 32
ECs: Student Council President, volleyball, plenty of community service, etc.

Instead of posting our grades and ec’s which were all good i’m sure, can we talk about this deferral? What really made me upset was not so much being deferred but the line:

“ten percent of applicants deferred under the Early Action program have been accepted in April”

i don’t know if i can wait all the way till April

Curious, with your amazing profile and hard work, where did you end up going to college?

All that the line means is that the 10% best of the 85% deferred are getting in, so ultimately you do still have a chance. It’s a sad sad number, but it’s a chance.

Deferred from GC
SAT: 2280/1480
UW GPA: 3.82
WGPA: 4.52
IB program -lots of ECs w/leadership, President NHS, thought essays were good, great recs, great interview, etc.

Totally bummed…hoping for EA at ND now.

Deferred from SFS.
SAT: 2120/1390
UW: 3.8
W: 4.3

Quite a few AP’s, captain of a varsity sports team, EIC of school newspaper, mock trial bunch of other EC’s. My essays were pretty decent and my teacher rec was outstanding.

I was expecting to be deferred, so it isn’t that much of a blow. Actually I was expecting to be the first student to be rejected ever in the EA pool so it came as a nice surprise :)
