Deferred from SFS
SAT: 2270/1470
GPA: 3.96

Most APs in school, lots of ECs, lots of leadership, etc., etc., etc.
I was expecting a deferral though. Sigh.

@penguin369: georgetown doesn’t reject people EA, only defer

He was joking.

I guess our chances aren’t THAT bad… now that the athletes, legacies, and best applicants are out of the way

hahah oops that totally went over my head lol

My mom left her account up, so I figured I’d hit the one school she’s missed. Deferred. Was actually hoping to be rejected though… I figure at least one school’s gotta reject you, why not have it be one that doesn’t even have the program you want? ![]()
32 ACT
3.6 UW, 4.4 W
Kick-ass LOR (counselor and teacher)
Sub par essays (after I’d decided in Sept. I wanted to major in neuroscience and discovered that the GTown program is a whole separate thing that just isn’t what I’m looking for)

Does anyone know the % of EA deferrals that are ultimately accepted via RD? Thx

usually around 10%

I was deferred as well… I mean I was kind of expecting it, as my GPA isn’t stellar and my SATs are average, but I think I would have preferred to simply get flat out rejected in the first round rather than keep my hopes up for April… It’s just going to be so disappointing all over again.

Wow. I can’t believe you guys were all deferred. You seem like great applicants. I was deferred from Duke and was going to apply to Georgetown. Yikes. Sorry to hijack your thread! Good luck to everyone in the RD round!

to the people with great stats that got deferred (that includes myself), i’ve heard a lot of stories about people getting deferred/even rejected from gtown and then going to great schools like yale, princeton, etc.
i know “tuft’s syndrome” probably doesn’t happen at a great school like georgetown, but there is a chance that maybe the school thinks we’re just using it as a safety? (this is just something people have been saying)
keep your head up, guys.
i’m in serious need of a pep talk too, considering i cried my eyes out when gtown isn’t even my first choice. it sucks cause it was the first school i heard back from
but with stats like the ones posted on this thread, im sure we’ll all go somewhere we love :)

^Is that mere speculation or do you really believe that Georgetown is manuevering in this way? To apply to Georgetown, you have to fulfill a separate application from the common app, and to apply Early Action, you have to do it early. Additionally, if you apply early to Georgetown, you forfeit many of the binding early decision and early action programs of other schools. Taking that into consideration, along with the stats of many of those accepted, I don’t think it can fairly be concluded that Georgetown rejected a lot of people because they suspected them of applying to it only as a safety school. Georgetown is not a viable safety school for anyone, especially those who would think to apply to it cursorily and thereby broach the admission committees’ suspicion.

no, relax. i was just repeating what others have said to me.

There are some really talented applicants on this thread - scary :(
