Today I received an email that said I was invited to apply to the Leader-Scholarship Communities (LSC).
“We are pleased to inform you that after a preliminary review of your application, the Brandeis Admissions Committee has identified you as a strong candidate for one of our Leader-Scholar Communities (LSC) and would like to invite you to apply to this exclusive academic and residential program… While applying is optional, please know that only a select number of high-achieving applicants were pre-screened and nominated for this honor.”
Does this mean I was accepted to Brandeis or that they are going to consider me for this program in addition to still considering my application? So excited because I thought I had a very long shot chance for Brandeis to even consider me!. Also it sounds like a great program so I’m definitely applying.
I got one today too. I think it’s safe to assume we got in because of it. Are you guys planning on applying for it? I want to go for Media and Politics since it fits my interests but I’m pretty sure I applied as a Bio major ? who knows !
I got it today too. Leadership in Health and Medicine baby! But i feel cynical. They could have sent it to half the applying pool after all. Can you guys post your sats?
My daughter received an invitation to apply to the Quantitative Biology Research Community and was wondering if the invitation could be something akin to a “likely letter”. Her stats: 2100 SAT, 3.99 UW GPA, 1/310 in class, IB diploma candidate, almost no ECs. She’s interested in Chemistry.
My son got a similar email from one of his schools: “Congratulations on your acceptance. You are invited to a reception at (the local) Marriot to meet some of our faculty…”
He emailed back: “That sounds great! Does that mean I’m accepted? I haven’t gotten any paperwork from your school…”
Their response? “Sorry, sometimes we make mistakes too. No, this is not an indication of acceptance. But you are invited to a reception at (the local) Marriot to meet some of our faculty…”
That was early December. In the time since, they’ve indicated that they want him to make an appointment for an interview and to send his mid-year grades.
That won’t be necessary. He has 6 other options.
It’s not the “hiccup” I mind so much as the way they addressed it.
@dedex13 When I received my letter last night my first thought was that it was a thinly veiled likely letter. I am assuming the programs are equivalent to an honors college.
I just got a reminder email that contained the sentence “We look forward to seeing you on campus next year.” I wasn’t certain before, but that sentence seems to make it pretty clear that we’re in.
SAME and I really want to tell my friends and family that I got in but it’s not in words like “You’ve been accepted.” I might email the person and ask but that may seen pushy.
@readyforthenext4 yeah, I wouldn’t email them, since they probably won’t be able to tell you anyways. I see no problem with telling friends and family you got the equivalent of a likely letter, but I wouldn’t broadcast it on Facebook, etc.
@16elir@RerunGirl I received this response to my email:
“At this time, your application for Brandeis is still being reviewed. Admission is likely based on what we’ve seen, but not guaranteed. We see potential and thought you’d be a great fit for this particular program. You can look at the LSC application as supplemental and something that you could look into if you were accepted and admitted.”
