I was offered an interview. Does it look bad if I don't take them up on the offer?

Dartmouth says they don't take demonstrated interest into account, but still...would it look bad if I don't interview?

Why wouldn’t you interview? Yes, it would seem wired. It is nowhere chance to solidify your Tory. Why wouldn’t you take the opportunity?

I’ve already had a bunch of interviews, and to be honest, I’ve learned very little about the school that I couldn’t have learned from the internet or friends at the school. However, will turning down the opportunity to interview reflect badly on my application even though Dartmouth says they don’t take interest into account? And how do I politely decline an interview?

The interview can only help your application… You are sorta hurting your chances in getting in if you don’t go because everyone else is going for an interview.

Newsflash: it ain’t all about you! (Think about it.)

Just because your past interviews haven’t been informative, doesn’t mean all interviews are uninformative. I’ve had multiple interviews in which I didn’t learn anything but my most recent interview, this past weekend with a Dartmouth alum, was extremely fun. Although I didn’t learn too much about the school specifically (He is an older gentlemen who can’t state specifics about the school today) it solidified Dartmouth as my top choice.

Yes it looks really bad unless you have an actual reason for not being able to attend.

my son was offered an interview by Cornell (Alumni ) but he had to turn it down as he will be out of town for a state level team competition. Even though he did respond by email asking for an alternate time to meet, he hasn’t heard back. Will this hurt his chance? perhaps, but there isn’t anything he could do about it.

do any of you have tips for the Dartmouth interview? I have mine on Saturday

Definitely do the interview if you can, but it won’t hurt you that much if you turn it down. To be honest, my supposed interviewer called me after I got in, that the the alumni group assigned him to interview me, but he somehow lost my email due to a miscommunication. So I never got an interview when I was supposed to.

Finding out about the school (or not) is fine, but the school also goes to the trouble to interview you for them to find out about you. Regardless of whether you learn more about the school or not, don’t you want the opportunity to show them how bright and articulate you are?
