the UW, but accepted to Yale, Stanford, USC, Brown, and waitlisted at Harvard. ***?

I don't remember the exact wording (and I don't know if it's true), but I think someone around here said that UW rejects you if "you're too good for them." It doesn't make any sense to me really.

I'm completely preplexed. While my application did have its strengths, it by no means was a shoo-in anywhere. It's just kind of ironic that I got accepted into some of these schools, but not the school I considered a safety? Catch my drift, if you will..I know that they won't discuss the specifics of why I was rejected ..but god dang it, I want to know.

hope you are rich

I am not rich. Middle class, at the best. What makes you say that though?

This will be my last post on UW thread. D is turning down UW to attend business school at U. of S. Carolina. So for anyone waitlisted, there will be one more seat.

Personally, I liked UW. But they were a bit tight on scholarships/grants. D decided this week to go to USC, a school where she feels she is a better fit, and at about $5K less than UW (in-state).

Being rejected by UW, while being accepted at prestigious schools, would be no surprise to me. I think my D felt that UW was a bit too "quirky" for her - plus she wanted a head-start on getting on with her declared major without going through another application process to get into UW's business school after her sophmore year.

Best of luck to all future Huskies. hksangha, look at the positives - and UW in your rear-view mirror.

^And best of luck to your D! (:

hksangha, yeah I wish they could say why they did/didn't accept people. My stats were nowhere near perfect (I'd say my SAT scores were quite terrible actually, haha) and my ECs were just mediocre. I thought there were only two parts of my app that really stood out, and I can't help but wonder if they're why I got in. And then I'm guessing you had a really good application overall since you got into Yale, Stanford, etc...but yet you didn't get in.

We'll never know I guess...the mysteries of life. lol

Yah. I don't know, it just makes me wonder. I might have my guidance counselor call them, and see if they'll be more receptive of her inquiries. I understand that admissions is a crap-shoot, but I'm just extremely confused here. It might also be that UW is a rolling-admissions school..and by the time all of the components were appropriately attached to application - it might've been too late to admit an out-of-state student. Oh who knows..it makes me wonder. Everything does happen for a reason, because at one point, the only school I was going to apply to was the Univ. of Washington.

If you really want to go there, I would call them and tell them the places you did get in and that you prefer their school. You can appeal. If you just wonder why I would forget it. Another reason to do it is if money is an issue or you weant to work in Washington state in the future.

Maybe you were so focused on trying to make your apps perfecty for those more prestigious schools, that you slacked off a bit on your UW app and they could tell?

I don't know. I don't think so, it's bizzare. Oh well.

It looks like you have some great options so theres no need to dwell on this...

So if you go to UW you have a better chance at finding a job in WA state?

University of Washington is most likely well recognized within the state of Washington.

I guarantee you, you wont have any trouble finding a job if you attend any of the schools you were admitted to. Would you even go to UW if your appeal was successful, or is it just that you can't stand being rejected? I'd venture to guess that it's the latter...

No no..I am apathetic as far as my rejection goes. But, had I not gotten into some of those other schools, I would be an ugly place..because Univ. of Wash was a school that I would've highly considered.
