I was suspended for five days... Am I screwed?

Okay, so at the beginning of my Junior year I was suspended for 5 days for tampering with the school's website - putting rival teams colors up + a picture of Borat on the mainpage. (Very ridiculously long suspension for what I did)

I actually did learn a lot from this, and haven't been in any trouble at all since (or before, for that matter). Also, now I am going to be the the main person working on and designing the website. I have already made the new design for our school's website?

How do I turn this negative into a positive? or am I just plain SOL?

Would it be good to use my essay to address this, or should I draw as little attention to it as possible?

"A picture of Borat on the mainpage."

LMAO.

Ditto! LOL! Man, that's so awesome.

On a more serious not, um, no, you won't be screwed. I believe there's a section in application where u talk about your "suspensions" or something, and [speculation] colleges might consider it humorous or something just for fun.

Not a big deal. if I was one of the admission officers i'd really just laugh.

lol, MIT kids do this all the time, and they don't condemn it. so they probably wuldn't be hypocritical and punish you for that either. but that's just mit haha

It won't be a big deal. Now if you had been suspended for cheating, stealing, etc then you would be in trouble. But a harmless( if not lame) prank? I don't think it would harm your chances.

If anything, it would probably help your application to an Engineering school.

Gotta say, I'd admit you right there for doing that. In all seriousness though, when you explain what happened and your "lessons" from your "mistake" and that now you're helping with the school's website, there's no way it'll be counted against you.

Hahaha, thanks for the words of support :P

my principal didn't quite appreciate the picture of Borat (or Boratah in his words) with his hairy chest and yellow speedo-bikini-thing. He now thinks I am a cyber terrorist... he even contacted the county attorney and thought about pressing charges against me, lmao!

The picture I used:

Just imagine that being opened up every time someone opens up a web browser in the school for about 20 minutes :D

:)

Like everyone else has said...I wouldn't worry about it : ) Anyone with a sense of humor would be able to tell that you meant no harm.

eww thats a weird picture tho :p

Don't forget that your applications will be read by people as well :)

Lmao, nice. I suggest you do something like this again [if you want]

No, I don't think it will really hurt you. BUT. When you explain it, be SURE to be sincere and not completely laugh off the suspension or your "prank" in your applications. You really do need to tell them you know you made a bad decision, and tell them what you learned (??) from the experience. As long as you put thought into your explanation, I'm sure they won't punish you for a small prank :)

I agree with NeoEpisteme. Be sincerely apologetic (even if you are not, that actually sounds pretty funny). If you talk about how you now manage the website, I think colleges might even look at it as a plus.

Make sure you mention that you learned your lesson, and that you now manage the website.
