Just a little Abraham Lincoln quote to relate to this thread :D

IV. Colleges of Interest
- Dartmouth College
- Brown University
- University of Rochester
- Villanova University
- Boston College
- SUNY Geneseo [in state]

Please rate each college that you know of as match, reach or safety. Thank you for your time and have a great day =].

Much depends on where you rank, even if your school does not officially rank. Dartmouth and Brown will want you to be in the top few in your class (40% at Dartmouth are top 1 or 2 and Brown is similar). For BC top 5-10% and yo should be fine for the others.

They use the school profile and historical data to rank you. Counselors will also help let them know who is where. In the book A s for Admission a former Dartmouth adcom explains in detail and lists some schools they have existing formulas for.

They will look at past applicants if your school profile does not give them enough info to rank you.

If yo are not top of class you will have a tough time at Dartmouth and Brown. I know Dartmouth best as my son just finished his freshmen year there. NY/LI is an extremely competitive pool there and at all ivies. There are lots of top students, lots of legacies, lots of qualified URMs, making it very difficult for the unhooked who are not at the top.

I would advise retaking the SATIIs and maybe taking another shot at the ACT depending on where you rank.

I would suggest taking the one of the biology SAT2s. You seem to be good at the sciences, and you need a boost in your SAT2.
You have a shot, but not a sure thing at brown and dartmouth.

Dartmouth College- Reach (raising your SAT IIs by about 40 points would help, but I think you can make it in with good essays)

Brown University- Reach

University of Rochester- Match

Villanova University- Match

Boston College- High match

SUNY Geneseo [in state]- Safety

And I wouldn’t retake a 34 on the ACT as was previously suggested. If anything, put your time into your essays and perhaps studying for the SAT IIs to retake in October.

Thanks smartcookie! That was very encouraging… I am considering retaking the SAT II’s, but I think that I will just want to do some really great essays. I have an idea right now that I’m reallly liking =].

hmm well seeing as I have already chanced this,
I would still say you have a shot, but your essay, recs, and interview will really count count since you are on the egde. Keep it up.

yea im going to say that smartcookie was deadly accurate…the 34 on the ACT is really solid tho (equates to over 1500 on SAT)…you have a very fair shot at dartmouth and brown just make sure you show a lot of interest as they are a little odd in who they admit…

Thanks to the both of you =]. It seems that the Ivy admissions are kind of crazy, but I’m just hoping that my personality will shine through my essay topics.
