I just sent in my form declining Harvard. Stanford '11, yeah!

My son is most likely going to turn down Harvard for MIT, but I started this thread since most people can't understand why he would turn down Harvard so I am genuinely curious about it. We are still waiting for the financial aid letters which may be a factor if there are big differences. For his interests (enginering and business) MIT seems the best match, but he will also take a good look at CalTech. (His choices are Harvard, Penn, MIT, Caltech, CMU, UT Honors Engineering, Olin and Harvery Mudd, the latter 3 of which have already offered serious merit money).

Hey Waitlisters, be happy! These are slots opening up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And congratulations to all of you kids with such great choices to make!

Forest, which is it, MIT or Penn M&T?

Trin, MIT is the best!!!!! I did not apply there (I am looking to major in English) but I visited there...I absolutely LOVED it. No other university can hold a candle to it in my opinion. The vibe and people there = truly unique.

ha, love jimbob lobbying for spots to open up on the wait list... course go ahead, I'm stuck there as well

Seriously though, congrats to all of you on making it, and I'm sure you'll pick whichever school is best for you

Yeah. I'm surprised at myself, actually. Harvard is 4th on my list behind Stanford, Yale, and Princeton. I don't really know why I'm lobbying, if I am.

heh, still waiting for stanford but with yale/princeton rejects for me go figure - go upenn I guess

Triskeliongirl-who cares that people can't understand why your son would turn down Harvard for anywhere else. The shcool that suits him best best academically, financiallyand personality wise is the palce he should be..period! No explanation necessary!

Is it worth turning down Harvard for Columbia?

YES :D

I may turn down Harvard for Yale since I was accepted to both.
