I will turn down Harvard for ______________.

Would turn down Harvard (indepenedent of financial aid) for
MIT - if I was interested in Engineering & Business (still take classes @ Harvard)
Stanford - weather
Penn/Wharton - if I was interetsed in Business only
Yale - if I was interested in History & pre-law

for everything else Haaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvvvvvvvvaaaaaaaaaaaard

I would turn down Harvard for Duke but unfortunately, Harvard didn't give me that opportunity.;)

haha, evil asian dictator~ I feel the same way~ I didn't expect to be accepted to Harvard, but I was thinking that even if I did, I would choose Cornell over it~ Unfortunately, Cornell didn't give me the chance~ >.<

But if I do get into Cornell (i'm on waitlist right now) should I go? O.o? I'm about 95% decided to go to Harvard, but the other 5% is waiting for any news from Cornell... T.T

^ LoL to the above post?

surely, there are many kinds of flowers on the face of the earth.
i'd rather choose a wind flower over a sun flower.

You are all making mistakes. Just a warning.

Cornell over Harvard? Ha! Have you ever been to Ithaca? If you have and you actually enjoyed it, well, good for you. Not many people can enjoy themselves in the middle of nowhere.

MIT over Harvard? Ha! So what, you want to be an engineer or something? Yeah, well have fun being an engineer with the ugliest people in the world.

Columbia over Harvard? One question...why? I mean, Columbia is a good school, but is it GREAT? Absolutely not.

Stanford over Harvard? Either A) You are some momma's boy from California who can't be too far from their family and are thus, weak. Or B) You think warm weather will bring you happiness. Okay, so warm weather will bring you happiness for a few months, but trust me, it gets BORING.

Princeton over Harvard? Ha! Obviously you are a U.S. News and World Report rankings wh***. And obviously you don't realize that once Princeton eliminates Early Decision next year, it's acceptance rate will rise because it's yield will drop dramatically, the quality of the student body will plummet, and it will drop to even below YALE. Now how scary is THAT. Also, everyone at Princeton is stuck up. It's science.

Yale over Harvard? Oh my. You must be insane. No one in their right mind would ever do that. Please, see a doctor.

^Lol I love trolls

I'm going to Cornell, (got rejected from Harvard..not that I care) and I can see why some people would drop Harvard. I remember reading a very scary article, on this very website I believe, about the social life at Harvard- or rather, the lack there of.

I applied to Cornell, COlumbia, Brown, Yale and Harvard...and Harvard was at the bottom of my list. I don't care how PRESTIGOUS you are, I refuse to spend the next four years of my life with a bunch of people who are either studying or talking about studying. College should be, in my honest opinion, one of the best experiences of your life. Harvard, I don't think will be like that. All that stress, count me out. I am happy to be going Cornell, I know it is not as prestigious as Harvard, but I will have a great time and be able to not only "work hard" but to "play hard" as well. They couldn't pay me enough to be unhappy!

Sexlikeascorpio... don't let anyone tell you Cornell is not as prestigious/good as Harvard. It's what you do that matters... not where you went.

Moving on...
"Columbia over Harvard? One question...why? I mean, Columbia is a good school, but is it GREAT? Absolutely not." (I'll only address this one since i'm going to columbia)

And dropitlikeitshot--- how do you feel about the fact that Columbia has the most Nobels in the world and that Columbia College this year tied for the lowest admissions rate in Ivy League history (with Yale's rate last year)? You are the reason why people turn down Harvard for other EQUALLY amazing institutions. They don't want to be selfcentered *******s.

Don't worry I wont...Harvard was at the bottom of my list. After reading an article that stated that they have like no social life(which I already assumed) and speaking several times to the Harvard admissions office and realizing, even over the phone, that they are egotistical, I had a sour taste for Harvard. I would have attended Cornell, Yale, Brown or Columbia over Harvard at anytime. Like I stated in another topic, Harvard couldn't pay me enough to be unhappy. All work and no play makes me angry!!

I expect to turn down Harvard to attend UCLA

I know 2 people who turned it down for Cornell. 2 who did it for Stony Brook. Too many people will go to the highest ranked college without asking questions. If Harvard doesn't have the program, attitude, or atmosphere you're looking for in an Undergrad. edu., then I say go somewhere else!

It is very sad, though, what rankings seem to do to the choices we make in terms of education. The vast majority of people, no matter how bright, just don't seem to understand that "best" (and by best I mean number 1 through 25 on USNews or any other system, the "nig names," or whatever you wanna call best) never means best for everyone.

hmmm....this is looking good for the wait-listers :-)

^Nice try but no lol

haha, I'm going to lobby with jimbob and sdong here... help us waitlisters, go to your not-Harvard first choice!!!! ;-)

I'd turn down Harvard for a full ride at JHU.

Yeah...um...dropitlikeitshot...no. Just no.

Penn(Wharton) over Harvard anyday, if I'm doing business. What do you want prestige for the masses or actual results. Wharton will give those results over Harvard and any other school, in business that is. Also, Penn is so much more fun than Harvard. I don't plan on being miserable in my college years. Also, people who go to Harvard simply because of prestige are immature and trust me that recruiters aren't going to look at Harvard differently than other elite schools. I think only choose Harvard if you are sure that it will conveniently fit you and your academic interests. It's like a car: Harvard is a ferrari, the coolest and best known one but is it necessarily the best? Depends what you want the car for.

LOL dropitlikeitshot, you got it just about right. ;)

Cornell engineering is the best in the Ivy League and its computer science program is one of the best in the world, can Harvard even come close to matching that? I think not! Harvard only has prestige going for it, but after everyone you know forgets that you're even going there, the kids who go to a school for substance will come out on top.
