I would've turned down Harvard for Yale or Penn (Wharton) in a heartbeat, if I'd gotten the chance (waitlisted at Harvard & Penn, rejected at Yale). Right now, though, Duke's lookin' more awesome every day.

I turned down Harvard for Cornell. They're both great schools (dont be snobby, I realize the whole HYP thing- but it's really not such a HUGE difference, although there IS a difference). Cornell is way more fun and a better fit FOR ME. It has more opportunities to study what I want and I like the community more as well. It's also a very prestigious school and I particulalry like the different social scene and somewhat larger size. And yes, I have been to Ithaca (have you?) and I loved it.

Oh and props to anyone else who got into harvard, it's close to impossible and an amazing school.

Princeton!!! though, i was on the waitlist at Harvard...

doctab, ..... Yes, i have been to Ithaca. That was the reason I did not even apply to Cornell. Enuf said.

^^ totally personal preference man

I know quite a lot of people who are turning down harvard for yale.

Let's keep this list coming!!!
Please, all of you, just go to Yale or MIT. (or Stanford, though I say so grudgingly.)
coughLeave a spot for me!cough

Ok, but seriously, if you're going purely for the name, please take some time and reconsider:
I have friends there who are really unhappy about their decision to go there, as they may have belonged more at smaller or more "liberal-art"sy colleges or in a different atmosphere, but were unconsciously (or consciously) pressured to go to or even like Harvard by parents, expectations, and other similar reasons. On the other hand, after thorough research, lots of visiting and realizing specific niches in which I could fit in perfectly, I am 150% sure of my fit at Harvard. Thus, it would be a win-win situation if each one of us just went to the school that we fit best at: you, perhaps elsewhere, me, please leave me a spot!

That being said, I will get off the soapbox now, thank you for your time, and prepare for indiscriminate flaming.
But, really. Thank you if you do reconsider.

Yes, please don't go to Harvard if you have been accepted. I have heard a ton of horrible rumors that it is greatly overrated and quality of life there is in the pits. (I simply don't want you to go please because I need to get off of the waitlist and get accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Please don't go. You'll be opening up a spot for a more deserving student (MEEEEEEE as in "Studying Stud") My name says it all folks. :)

wow hu on this blazing earth would turn down harvard i mean c'mon thats just insane lol

last year, my friend got accepted to columbia, yale, harvard and vassar, and turned down all that for yale. there wasn't even a question about it. she is having a time of her life at yale!

She turned down Vassar for Yale?!??!??///?????//?

Please. ;)

Well, that story doesn't really count because it's Yale...not like she was sacrificing any prestige...

People do turn down Harvard for various reasons--Harvard's yield is not quite 100% yet. Who are you to judge their decisions?
