I wish that CC would clean up the site and delete old threads with lots of comments. They are impossible to read and some of the material is outdated. Anyone with me on this?
I think that the old threads should be closed anyway, so that they are not revived with people thinking they are new. It may be ok to leave them there for informational purposes.
I feel it would be a waste to completely remove them.
I think they should be deleted because someone new will inevitably ask the same questions and the answers will at least be up to date current answers.
Look at the “schools know for good merit aid” thread…started in 2005 with way too many answers to ever sift through and most are no longer “known for good merit aid” 9 years later. Delete the thread and I guarantee a new up to date readable thread will soon be started.
You can simply skip to the more recent posts in older threads. I doubt CC will delete old threads - they generate a lot of traffic via google searches, bringing people to the site.
If you see old threads that you think should be closed, please report them.
Why not archive some of these old threads by year? For example, close and archive the thread “schools known for good merit aid”. A new one could be started that would be up to date and manageable to read. CC is getting messy with all these old threads under select categories.
Closing and archiving is a much better alternative to deleting. As OHMomof2 alluded to, every thread is an open doorway to the site via Google Search results…not to mention having more content indexed by Google is a good thing. Just wish Google would decide to feature fresher content in their results sometimes. I get results from several years ago even on technology-related issues that I search for…and this happens with just about any site that has aged content.
For now, I will echo what MaineLonghorn mentions about reporting old threads that you feel should be closed. We’ll look into the possibility of archiving by year or some other method for making things a bit more streamlined.
Nope. I wouldn’t mind if they were closed so people wouldn’t revive them, but I enjoy reading the archives.
Please don’t delete old threads!
How could we ever introduce new posters to clam farts if old threads were deleted?
Surprised you didn’t include a link to that one
For those of you who are confused, here is what she’s referring to: <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/470497-clam-fart-oh-my-god-what-did-i-do.html”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/470497-clam-fart-oh-my-god-what-did-i-do.html</a>
So famous it doesn’t need a link! It actually came up in a FB group the other day
That clam fart post is funny…did he get in???lol!!!
