I wish I was black or mexican or native american...

Reeze .... why do you think that there is no policy needed? Guess you are a lilly white guy that is only seventeen and has a whole lot to learn because you have been living in you sheltered little world! Keep living in this world get to know others than people like yourself....you may find a hidden racist in there! I know your response....so I will write it now: "Some of my best friends are black!" I've met many like you....wake up and realize that it is not a perfect world in America... and race is an issue that has never been properly addressed. In the words of Dead Prez "HELL YEAH".... A POLICY IS NEEDED!!

*** seriously... if anything, asian should be considered a minority.

seriously, if you asians want some AA, abandon your culture that abhors defeat and some of you start slacking, you'll get it

haha , i just realised taht asians are probably the least populated in the u.s., but arent considered a minority whatsoever, equal opportunities? i think asians have had their fair share of discrimination. another thing i just realised. this is literally bull ****t.

But to the OP, you, by no means, DO NOT get into any college of your choice with minimal stats. A 3.6 GPA 1980 SAT second decile class ranking black kid does not have a good shot at a school like Princeton, period. Race helps, but only so much, and your post exaggerates it.

anybody watching black, white right now? If not tune it to FX

i wish i had fx! this was gonna be a good show/documentary

You are so clever and smart and witty... wow you knew what I was going to say! I have one friend who is black, and she's only 1/8, dresses real preppy, and is light skin black. I'll admit, the people I hang out with are all pretty much white and a couple of asians and hispanics. I live in suburbia, what do you expect.

You talk about finding "a hidden racist"? Careful how you swing that sword there. In America, white people are royally scruwed if someone publically calls them racist. You always have to play the race card? If you think that race is an issue, don't you think people should talk about it? Only thing is, you can't talk about it without being labeled racist. Catch 22 huh.

Like I said, I could easily be wrong here, but I believe in an economic policy. I believe differences are in large part due to economic status.

so educate me, what specifically prevents you from achieving as high as your white or asian counterpart?

I refuse to believe that black people are less capable. Call me optimistic, but I believe everyone has roughly the same capabilities

I understand what scientist is talking about. In no way is he saying that blacks are less capable, what he means is that it is harder to succeed in a society where things are more or less dominated by whites. I am the only black person in my advanced classes, and my school is for the most part minorities, whites account for 30% If you look at these ratios it seems as though it is a system. My counselors even teachers felt I couldnt succeed in an advanced class, was it simply because I was black? Id hope not but in the back of my mind I have to think it is because my grades in my history classes were A's. But it is undeniable that minorities, especially blacks have had it harder in terms of succeeding among their white counterparts for other reasons than their raw capabilities. This of course is my experience. A black student at my school in an IB class is taboo, while a white or asian is expected to attend it. It is small things like that which need policy. Therefore kids adhere to it and underachieve and are prejudiced against if the break that unspoken rule. Its things like that

I see. It may just be the mentality of many blacks at my school, but my high school is, like, 51% black while AP classes are generally about 4-10% black.

Reeze.... don't simplify my response to me being clever... I am double your age and experienced...therefore I have heard it all. I have lived a life that you could never dream of! You have admitted that there needs to be a policy... that is my point. As far as you having a "hidden racist" inside, you seem to be so conditioned that you can't even tell that there is a problem. Many many whites are this way. Everything is fine, they don't know anything else. One thing does not go their way, not getting in the school of their choice, all of the sudden it is AA!!!! Oh, it is reverse racism, BS!!!
What specifically prevents me from achieving the same as my white counterparts.... the after effects of slavery have never been addressed! Imagine if I got my 40 acres and a mule. What about all the work that my ancestors did to build this nation? It is always ok for Jews to complain about the holocaust, but blacks can't complain about slavery! Whites say....all just forget about it, that was in the past! Well we can't and won't forget about it! Reeze, if you do not know the past then you do not know the future. A policy is needed to help address what your ancestors have done, given you an advantage, that is unfair! How else can we change the situation? We need change in Amerikkka....change from what the good ole boys want to conserve. You may not be a hardcore racist.... but you are definitely blind to what has happened in the past which is affecting what is happening now! In my eyes that is just as bad because you are in the way of change for the better. It is people like you that are keeping me from achieving the same as my counterparts. It is your parents, that you come from, that pay me less than my counterparts and I have triple the education that they have!! Reeze you have got a lot to learn, please continue to live and really get to know some black people! Not just go to school and eat at a fast food restuarant with them. Go to their house and be a real friend. You will be surprised at how little you know.
