I wish my parents were tougher on me school wise....

My college educated parents are really nice and I worry what they think of me(stupid,smart,lazy,failure,nerdy,jocky..etc) so I rarely talk to them about anything.

Now that I am looking at colleges independently I realize since I didn't try my Freshmen or some of Sophomore year, my dreams of getting into a top college have been crushed.

While they know I am easily one of smartest people in my school(top 3 or 5),have a 138 IQ, and Brilliant in Math,Science and History(especially history) My parents know I could get into a top university if I applied my self, but they never pushed me.

I might be alone, but college was the last thing on my mind heading to a new school in a new town.

Now I am looking at what I am interested in(Physics,Engineering,International Relations,CompSci) and the possibility of graduate school.
The more I look, the more I realize, The Prestigious schools are Prestigious for good reason.

Now I wish my parents would beat me for not getting straight As.
I feel like I am wasting my potential now.

I don't get what you are trying to say...

your first paragraph seems to be saying that you are worried about how your parents think of you

your second paragraph tells me that you are worried about your chances because you slacked off freshmand/sophomore year

your third paragraph seems to be saying you are a smart kid but you want your parents to care about that more

your fourth paragraph tells me that you moved to a new town and this is when you started caring about colleges

your fifth paragraph informs me of what you're interested in.
"The more I look, the more I realize, The Prestigious schools are Prestigious for good reason." <-- and....?

as for your last paragraph, why would you ever want your parents to beat you for not getting straight A's?????

I really don't get the main point, but more importantly if you are a smart kid, you don't need to feel that your parents should beat you.

That sounds really conceited.

Moving on, my parents are sort of like that too. They're Chinese yet conform to none of the Asian parent stereotypes. They couldn't care less if I got straight A's as long as I tried. Sometimes I wish they pushed me academically, but in retrospect I'm happy with what I've got and grateful they let me find it on my own.

I used to think that, but really. In the end you've got no one to blame but yourself.

Alex

Isnt everyone conceited?
Ever consider doing a PG year somewhere is you wish to get into a better school?
I saw you mentioned Jockey, so Im thinking you are good at a sport.

On various levels. I said it sounded really conceited.

I don't think so... I think most people on CC are: Brilliant in something, easily one of the smartest in their respective schools, and >> (much greater than) IQ 130.

yeah; i feel like my parents are sometimes 'all talk'.

;;;they don't beat me ! haha

I visited Japan once and someone asked if I wanted to model (sighs so hard being beautiful... )
(Alexx)
Ok, dude, u r very conceited. LOL

Haha. Come on, tell me you knew I was joking (about the being beautiful part at least ;) ). Maybe the wink emoticon at the end was too subtle...

Alex

I am not conceited
In fact, I would go as far say saying I hate myself

And I realize it is partially my fault, but I was too worried about high school to worry about college until now.]

My parents never even talked to me about college really.

what is a PG year?
I am not a jock, rather nerdy in fact.
I am ok at sports, but I don't have a the confidence to play a sport for my school.

Also imagine how I feel on CC with a bunch of users with 4.3 GPA and 2399 SAT scores that are afraid they will get into Brown instead of Harvard

lol, U were joking dude? I thought u were marrying urself. lol

Nah, man. I said it sounded conceited whether or not you intended it to.

Don't say you wish your parents pushed you more, they're not to blame. Just accept your losses, move on and try your best from now on. While you might not make it into the top undergrad schools (which you don't know for sure), work towards an amazing grad school. Of the two that's what matters more, anyway.

Point is, if you give up before you started, just starting is going to be miserable.

Alex

We shoudl start a thread about who loves themselves. Alexx would take 1st place. lol

what, do you have to start 2 threads about how you slacked off freshman/sophomore year so your dream to an elite college is over?

What's really the point of this thread? About how you are smart and you wish your parents would "beat you" for not getting straight A's? Seriously?

...

my parents are both elite college grads yet put barely any pressure on me. its all up to me and im doing fine by myself i think

People, camn down and lay off.
Let the dude have his moment, we all have ours.
Cant we all get along? lol

my parents are kind of like that, i kind of wish they were harder on me but then again I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have loved school and learning as much as I do if they did. I wish someone had told me about the importance of ECs though and I WISH MY SCHOOL DIDN'T TELL ME COLLEGES ONLY CARE ABOUT GRADE 11 AND 12! which is true in Canada but not US :(

sorry for ramble :p

I wish my parents were tougher on me... but I really can't expect much from them. In fact, it would be nicer if they just stopped complaining about AP tests etc. which I pay for btw!

I just feel miserable...Like I am failing myself above all thins. I feel like I'm not going to be happy.
I just want to be very happy and very sucessful
Going to this site, while informative, really depresses me.

Another reason I wanted to got to top school is.....It would be a big ego booster.

I'm mean I want to talk to my parents about colleges, but I am afraid.
I also don't think they know how competitive it is. My dad got accepted to Brown,BC and several other top colleges, but he went to the state university and I think both my parents expect me to do so.

^yeah this site is really depressing

i kinda wish my parents took me to a prep school rather than just being happy with my public school because "there isn't much violence here"
