I Wonder...

Does Living in the South ( i live in texas)

give you any advantages of getting accepted into a college?

Yes if you're applying to private colleges and universities where few southerners apply to.

Those places tend to be in very cold regions of the country. While southerners may be willing to withstand the cold to go to the very top colleges like Harvard, Princeton and NYU (while it's not as highly ranked as HPY, it's still very popular because of NYC), southerners aren't as likely to risk the cold to attend college at lesser known, but still outstanding, places like Bowdoin, Colgate, Cornell, Macalester, Grinnell, and Oberlin.

Many colleges post the distribution of students by state at their school. Often Montana or Wyoming come up as 0 in the Northeast. Look for places with fewer Texans and Southerners in general. Agree with Northstarmom--think cold--also Dartmouth might fit this model. Plus: Carleton, Middlebury, Colby, Bates, Tufts, Brandeis....
