I would Appreciate your help, Please chance an international

Hey there,

Thanks to everyone who will dedicate some time to read this thread and even more to those who will answer. I just got my may sat scores, not as good as I expected but got 1660. 550 CR 570M 540WR. I understand that this is a very poor score for engineering. In addition I already graduated from high school in my country last December, and didn’t take the SAT until Now. I served in the army in the national guard of my country for a year and back in High school I was a very good student, my approval rate was above 85% and my class rank was top 10%. Having said that all, I am planning to apply to UMN this summer. I have a good Transcript along with recommendations that make emphasis on my interest with in engineering. One good thing is that I am not requiring financial aid, meaning that my chances are a little higher there. Do I stand A chance here?
Thanks Again

juanp…My guess would be that your chances of getting accepted into CSE at UMinn would be fairly small unless you’re able to raise your SAT score by a fair bit. If you haven’t seen it, here is a link to the profile of students who were admitted to UMinn last fall.

As you can see, your SAT (M+CR) score puts you in the bottom 25% of CSE students. CSE and CBS are the two most competitive colleges within UMinn, so I’d recommend re-taking your SAT if you think you can raise your scores to give yourself a better chance. Your stats might be somewhat more competitive if you apply for admission to CLA or one of the other colleges. If your heart is set on attending UMinn you could go this route, earn a solid GPA, and possibly apply to transfer to CSE later on. Here is a link to the transfer requirements for CSE to give you an idea of what you’d need prior to applying. Good Luck to you!!
