IB Acceptace Rate?

I heard that GT loves students who have been in the IB program and that there are typically higher acceptance rates among these applicants. With other things of course being considered of course, has anyone else heard this?

My daughter applied to GT last year as an IB Diploma Candidate and was accepted, even though her math test scores were on the low end of the range (ACT 27). I have not heard if IB students have an overall higher acceptance rate, but I do think it was a positive when they reviewed her information. It is just one component that shows the student has completed a rigorous curriculum in high school.

Was her composite score a 27 or just the math portion? Do you mind telling me what her UW GPA was? Just feeling a little anxious about the app process at GT. My UW GPA is in the low 3’s. ACT score of 31. I’m hoping the the commitment to/rigor of the IB program will be looked favorably upon.

The good news is that IB classes all get a boost of .5. Try recalculating your GPA now knowing that each IB class gets a .5 boost.

This might help you out: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Freshman Application Review Process](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission) and just hit the dropdown for HS GPA/Rigor of Curriculum.

I assume that we don’t get the extra 0.5 for IB SL classes… which really SUCKS!!!

YellowJacket, what IB score did your daugther get?

IB students have an advantage because they basically take the equivalent of 6 AP classes for two years of high school. So that’s 12 courses (13 if ToK is a separate course in your school) with an extra +0.5 weight. Most AP students only take 3-5 AP classes.

Being a straight C student in IB isn’t going to pass muster, but being an all A/B student in IB is better than being an all A/B student not in IB.
