IB Admission Preferences

Are there any top 50 universities that are known to have a reputation for accepting IB Diploma candidates. I know many schools look at the entire HS picture and which curriculum is offered. Many consider IB in the same classification as AP courses. I have heard that a small number of schools show some preference for IB Diploma candidates in the admissions process.

Obviously, the curriculum is only one component of the application.

University of Florida

You might want to go visit the page: http://www.ibo.org/ibo/index.cfm?page=/ibo/services/universities/scholarships&language=EN. It has the list of universities that offer IB Diploma students scholarships. However, unsure if it's a total and complete list.

And it appears Uni of Florida only gives scholarships to IB students from United World Colleges. So does Carleton, I think...

Juniata College, I know, for one, offers sophomore standing to IB Diploma students who get 30+ points.

Georgia schools are IB-friendly. Duke is also fairly IB-preferential. I've heard Yale and Boston U are also IB-friendly, but I don't have proof.

Harvard is IB-friendly. I'm almost sure it was Columbia, but when the admissions rep visited our school she told us that Columbia recognizes that the rigor of the IB program exceeds that of a bunch of AP courses.

It might have been some other school. But more and more colleges are choosing to recognize that IB>AP.

Too bad most of them only give credit for HL courses...

Excellent... I'm applying early to Columbia, so hopefully my IB will help.
