IB Advanced Topics?

Hi all! Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Basically, my situation is that I am going to be a sophomore in the coming school year taking IB calculus. My question is, since our IB coordinators said that the HL tests must be taken senior year, what math class should I take in my Junior year?

The classes that I haven't taken are:
IB Math Studies (SL)- I don't think I would take this class, as it is lower than IB precalculus...
IB Math HL- IB coordinator says must be taken senior year.
IB Advanced Topics- I have no idea what this is...anyone?
AP Statistics- Seems a bit easy, not sure

Or, possibly I could take multivariable online?

I don't know, is there some way to petition taking the HL test earlier than senior year, or.. I don't really know what to do.

Again, thanks for the time taken to read this post!

IB Advanced Topics, I think, is your school’s form of IB Further Mathematics SL. idk. take AP Calc junior year. IB Calc doesn’t rly have that much calculus to be honest. I think you should take AP Calc sophomore year, IB calc junior year, IB Math HL senior year. That’s what I did and very glad I did it.

Um… yeah i wish i could. The problem is that AP stat is the only AP math offered at our school…

There is no IB Calc. It’s IB Math HL or SL, neither of which contain much calculus. Usually the IB Math HL course is spread over your junior and senior years, but if that’s not the case at your school you can basically take whatever you want junior year. It’s a shame that your school doesn’t offer anything besides AP Stats; I would just go ahead and take that.

Hm… interesting. We do have an IB calculus class for sure… and it is a lot of calculus…I’ve looked through the textbook. Our school can take classes at the other high schools in the district, which have AP programs. What AP math do you recommend me take? I really don’t want to take AP Stat, as I think I could self-study that.

def AP Calc BC!! lol.

UGH!!! REALLY!? just checked the other schools course descriptions books… all they offer is AP Calc AB and AP Stat… now what guys? can anyone help? online courses? or just take AP stat

Two of my IB friends are in this situation right now. One simply just didn’t take a math course and shifted Calc to senior year. The other took Stats to keep her math skills from rotting away.

I’d recommend stats.

ehhh. AP stats is seriously a waste imo. i liked AP calc AB so I will say that.

anyone recommend online courses or community college classes? School will pay for themm… WA state running start program, similar to dual enrollment… are they bad?

i don’t really see the point in taking AP calc AB and IB calc? haha… it just doesn’t really make sense…

Your school must teach it differently then. When it comes for you to take the exam, you will find that calculus is only a small portion.

Hm. okay… i still have a while till i take the tests haha. Still anyone know what i should take?

what is this IB calculus?

Maths SL and Math Studies SL have very little and very basic calculus. My school (unwisely, I believe) has us take a full year of calc before we take the Maths SL (while having no review of any materials on the test  ).

Well our school does this track for math

8TH-Honors Integrated 1
9TH-Honors Integrated 2
10TH Pre IB Advanced Algebra/Trig
11TH IB Precalculus
12TH IB Calculus SL
IB Math HL
IB Math Studies SL

They call it SL, but its a calc course. They try to stuff as much of the Math SL test into IB Precalc as they can. Because im two years ahead of the track, i have a problem junior year…
