Most numbercrunching for large real estate deals is going to India.

Maybe at the analyst level, but the industry as a whole ain't goin nowhere.

In general intelligent math and computer guys have to worry more about outsourcing than front office jobs that require communication&stupid office politics.

yea so if they were to outsource these analyst jobs....where would associates get their experience from and VPs and MDs and so one.....they all usually start at the analyst postion at one point or another...it doesnt really make sense that they would do this....thye may further expand to markets such as India, Brazil, China..etc..but it just doesnt make sense to get rid of the first step in an i bankers career...i would think that there would need to be a lot of interaction with an analyst and assocs and VPs cause they are the ones who look over the books and note revisions which the analyst must make.... just doesnt make sense

Hrmm I don't like india

some indian girls are hot.:)

if ib jobs get outsourced, becoming an analyst will be as difficult as breaking into private equity or VC directly out of undergrad. Now if that does happen, then everyone's gonna be brought down on a notch on the quality of their undergrad job and MBA admissions will most likely eventually take that into account. They already know now that applicants with PE and HF experience arent the norm and if IB analyst positions get outsourced, they'll recognize that those are no longer the standard. If they do get outsourced, everyone will be hurt, but then theres less expectation put on an applicant and that means no 100 hour work weeks to get an MBA.

As reference, Goldman pays newly hired biz grades from top Indian schools an equivalent to $28k dollars

i love india and people are paid as much as $200,000 coming out of top Indian biz schools.

i highly doubt people in india coming out of top biz schools get $200k USD. that would make them close to millionaires with adjusted cost of living.

i would say 10,000 pounds a month equates to more than $200,000 unless exchange rates have suddenly changed

India gets paid in rupees or so I thought??

1 USD = 44 RUPEES

My friend (somehow) got a job in IB after writing financial software for 5 years in NYC. I believe he was making like 150k/year before he got the IB job and is now making even more. So I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that there are many ways you can get into IB later in your career. A lot of it depends on who you know though. Outsourcing/offshoring is a threat to almost all fields.

I'm going to apply to CMU's (Tepper) Computational Finance program soon and feel very excited about it. :) :) I have a few friends that went through the program and they are very pleased with jobs they landed upon graduation.

If I do'nt get in, I'll just kick back, relax, and keep enjoying my engineering job. I have a good shot at it though because my GPA during my undergrad is pretty high, though it almost killed me off and put me in more debt.

"I have a good shot at it though because my GPA during my undergrad is pretty high"

Your high undergraduate GPA isn't enough to get you into an MBA program. You need quality work experience/leadership potential

“Your high undergraduate GPA isn’t enough to get you into an MBA program.”

This would be relevant if he was applying to an MBA program, which he’s not.
Computational Finance =/ Business Administration. They aren’t even remotely similar.

If you could go back in time 5 years ago and say this to him, I’m sure he’d feel bad. Too bad you can’t…

I have a friend in this program right now – I hadn’t heard of it so I did some research. Looks like a very intense program that really produces elite graduates.

It is not an MBA program.

There are some smaller IB shops outsourcing basic work to India. It won’t happen on a large scale because of how little analysts cost at a bank and how important it is to have people on site, able to turn doc’s immediately. All the big banks do have Indian operations.

This won’t happen for 3 reasons. Credibility, Confidentiality and Politics.

It is different having someone prepare work for you who is 5000 miles away versus someone who is at the office everyday. The person who is 5000 miles away will not care about the work as much as someone working with you.

The reason a lot of IBanker work many hours is because they are assigned a specific project where only a select number of people are involved. Sending work to someone 5000 miles away in another country where financial regulations are not enforced the same way can cause a lot of legal issues especially when you are dealing with a public company.

How bad will it look when you have a US company bailed out by the US government, outsource their investment banking jobs to India?
