IB and scholarship...

Does any one know of any school either in the US, Canada or the UK which offers some form of scholarship based on IB Diploma scores, or the likes?

I'm not too well informed, but I know most public schools (and some private) will give you credit hours based on your diploma scores. That's usually only for higher level tests, though. The IB kids at my school have been recently bombarded with info from the University of Tulsa, as well, who will give merit scholarships (usually a full ride, I think...) for recieving a diploma.

University of Tulsa gives money to IB students! Yes, I'll be applying to that school. I think if you're in IB and have a decent SAT, you are basically a shoo-in. Oh, here's the best part. THey aren't asking for 5s and 6s. They're asking for TOTAL IB POINTS. You are automatically given the max # of credits if you have more than 30-35 points. Freakin' sweeet XD

Check out FLorida schools. They wet their pants at IB students, too.

I was also bombarded by U of Tulsa as well. If you go to the IBO.org website you can search a database for info on credit and scholarships.

You're going to Berkeley, it says -- do they give good money/credit for IB?

ummm...Berkeley, esp. because it is a state school, does not offer a lot of merit scholarships. There are no purely "IB" scholarships, but because my schedule could be deemed the "most rigorous offered" I was a good candidate for them. I was awarded two.

Credit for U of Cali schools is only beneficial if you are a diploma candidate. Otherwise they only give you credit for HL courses.

This thread should help about credit, Berkeley is a little different because it is on semester not quarter:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40808%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40808</a></p>

Hope that this helps :)

Most schools I've looked at only give credit for HL tests, regardless of whether or not you have your diploma. Tulsa's the only one I've seen so far that gives you credit for your overall achievement (30 credit hours for a cumulative score of 28, or something like that). Our state university, for example, will only give credit if you get a 6 or 7 (in most cases) on a HL test. Does Berkeley function more like Tulsa?

Sorry, I just read the thread you posted above.

If I score over 30 points and recieve my diploma, can I opt to get actual class credit and higher placement for my HL tests instead of simply taking the 30 hours of elective credit?

I'll have to answer that when I actually get to Berkeley, because it is more on a departmental basis. I have a 7 in HL History of the Americas...but I'm a history major so it might be harder to place out of the corresponding course because it has to do with requirements for my major.

Berkeley accepts 5-7 for credit (I don't know exactly what that means, but all my scores are above a 5). They haven't received my official test scores yet, so I'm still learning about the process.

I would say that U of Tulsa offers the best deal that I have heard of. I was actually surprised that Berkeley offers what it does, but elective credit does have it's uses.

o ok thanx to all!
