I'm going to be taking IB Higher Level Art Studio, and would like to use the artwork from this class as at least part of my portfolio. I will have a few pieces not created in class, but I don't have the time to create very many high quality ones outside of school. Has anyone else done this/should I spend this summer just doing art for portfolios?

My suggestion is that you should take classes outside of school. That way, you will be constantly creating artworks, even if you think that you don't have enough time to work on art. (having guidance in art is quite important)

I would say just work on your own-- I disagree to a degree with a ton of guidance-

Alright, thanks for your advice!

you have to realize that most portfolios for schools are due by beginning/mid-december or even earlier for an ED (like october). you probably wont have time to wait to see what you produce during the school year. and why wait until summer to start? start working on pieces now! :D

a ton of guidance, maybe not, but definitely guidance. if you have absolutely no free hand drawing experience/ability take a figure drawing class. it's not guidance as much as it is opportunity.

maybe if drawing isnt your strong-suit, apply for programs without portfolios, like penn state, vtech, rpi (not sure), etc

you definitely need one for RPI

Thanks for the words of wisdom, everyone!
