Hey guys, I'm really interested in going into IB, but not the AEM program. I'm much more interested in just going into CAS Economics. Will this hurt my chances of being recruited by IB or other 'business' related jobs? Or is job recruiting equal for all.

there might be some early or special programming for AEM students but most opportunities should be available to all qualified cornell students…

most important thing for the banking industry is internship and experiences…

IB recruiting is open to most students, it’s not limited to AEM - this past summer IBs recruited from ILR, Engineering, Hotel, CAS, and of course AEM. AEM students may want to chime in, but my daughter (a CAS students) saw postings online and interviewed same time as AEM students. She is not aware of AEM students getting special treatment.

Whether you are recruited by IBs depends on your GPA, course load, ECs (how involved you are on campus, any leadership experience), work experience, and aptitude for finance.

All of those IBs recruit at LACs and other top tier schools without UG business school, so there is no reason to believe those IBs would prefer AEM over CAS or other schools at Cornell.

Interesting, that kind of… relieves me a bit. Though if IB recruiting and internship opportunities are equal, than what would be the point of going into the (harder for admission) Applied Econ. and Management program?

hopefully people go into majors where they will hopefully succeed and enjoy the material…
