Aight, so for my senior schedule, I am taking several AP classes. However, I still have 2 open periods. My school just became an IB school, so I cannot get an IB diploma. However, since I have 2 open periods, I can take these IB classes. Is it worth it to take IB classes, if I cannot get an IB diploma? What would colleges think? Is there a point to it? Thanks!

bump please.

You already have 7 AP classes plus it’s your senior year I doubt you want to overload on work when you could instead be having fun. So my suggestion is no don’t take them, have fun! :)

…When did I say seven?

I would say take them. IB is a strong program that forms well rounded students. You dont go to school so that you can get into college you go to school because you want learn.

IB is a two year program. If you start taking IB now, you’d be taking gr.11 classes. So no, I wouldn’t suggest taking IB, because it will add to your course load, but it won’t look very good to adcom since they are gr.11 courses. Also, you won’t be able to use it for college credits since 1. you have only finished half of the IB curriculum and 2. you won’t be able to get an IB mark as those are given at the end of 2 years. So unless you do some serious work and finish both years in one, do all the internal evaluation + external evaluation projects and the IB test, you won’t even get an IB mark. If you want to challenge yourself, just take a couple more APs. It’ll give you credits that you can use (if you do well on the AP tests), and it’ll look like gr.12 courses.
As to the whole learning thing, IB 11 is not that challenging. The bulk of work you do in IB is in the second year.

It would be tough to crunch two 2-year courses into one year. You can get the Individual Certificates but do you really need to do this? AP will do just fine. Don’t kill yourself.

colleges do look at your senior year’s work load.
since you missed the chance to take IB at 11 grade, you only can take IB (SL) courses at this point, it’s one year course. but no college give credits to SL.
