Hi, just wondering about the AP Test. I am taking IB Chem I this year and IB Chem II next year (my junior year). Is it wise to take the AP Test? Would I get college credit for getting a 5 on the AP Chem test? Would the materiel being tested be the same as the IB curriculum? Are there any extra benefits to taking the AP test? Are AP tests offered year round like SAT, or only in May?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
AP tests are offered once a year, in May. There is no extra benefit to taking an AP exam, although some colleges only give credit for a 7 on the IB exam, so in that case, it is statistically easier to get a 5 on the AP exam. However, the amount of overlap between IB and AP varies by subject, and I can’t speak for Chem specifically.
Many colleges only give course credit for an HL class so, if you are in Chem SL, and can put in some extra time to review the AP Chem prep book to see how much overlap there is, it may well be worth it to self-study the materials that are on the AP test but not covered in Chem SL in order to have the possibility for credit.
True, but the OP is in a 2 year Chem sequence, so I’m assuming it’s HL, although we all know what happens when you assume.
@skieurope At most schools I know even SL classes are two years long
