I am currently an IB diploma candidate. However, I think I signed up on more than I could handle. My gpa went from a 3.89 freshman year and 3.71 sophomore year to 3.14 the first semester of my junior year. I really want to get into UW. Im just wondering, what are my chances if I try and maintain a 3.6 gpa overall, keep scraping by in IB, have a 30 ACT? I also have very strong extra curricular activities.
Hoping to get some advice, especially from people accepted into the fall of 2017
Thanks!
If you keep a 3.6 UW…you will get in. The IB gives you a lot of bragging rights. Especially if you want to major in bio or physics and took IB Bio or IB Physics because you can talk about all the research you did. Make sure your personal statements are good.
I’m graduating this year with my IB Diploma and I got accepted to UW this year.
Honestly there’s no specific formula for winning the admissions game, but if IB is the hardest program at your school, you stand a really good chance if you stick it out.
I’m sure you’ll be fine with a 3.6 GPA, but if you don’t feel good about your GPA, you can always take the ACT/SAT again to try to get a higher score to make up for the GPA.
Best of luck!
