IB Diploma Student, Low GPA, Help!

I am a Junior in the IB Diploma program and am really starting to get worried about my chances of getting accepted into a good college. Right not my GPA is a 3.5 and I am concerned that I will not get into any of my choice schools.
As a Freshman my GPA was a 3.7 and I had a 3.9 as a Sophomore. Right now I am getting a C+ in Math and a B in Chemistry as well as a B in Spanish. I can see my Spanish grade improving, but Math and Chemistry are very challenging for me. I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I have taken the PSAT (still awaiting the results). I plan on applying to Boston University, NYU, and other safer schools. But Boston would definitely be my first choice. I want to go to school for Law and Political Science, no math or science courses unless necessary.
So my question is, should I drop some IB classes to bring up my GPA? Would colleges be able to overlook that because of the fact I am in the Diploma Program? Do I even have a chance at these schools? I was told that IB would help me get into almost any college, but right now I am definitely having some doubts.
Thanks for reading.
On a side note I will be applying for an internship at the United States Patent Office and/or as a congressional aid. Will that look good on a college application?

I dont have much idea about IB and/or the college application for US students (this is a sub-forum for international students, from Nepal) but I’ll try to answer what I can. You should probably post the question to some other sub forums like parents cafe, ask the dean, or chance threads to the specific college threads.

If you drop one of your classes, how sure are you that you can improve your grades in other courses? Is the class a required class? What are your plans as far as your intended major goes, if you have one? I’d say put in more effort in your core classes and drop your electives, if you have to. Again, I don’t know how exactly IB works. GPAs are super important in college admissions majority of the time, since they can be a representative of how well you would be able to do in college.

IB senior here…
Colleges look at your grades from all four years, but your junior grades are the most important. Being an IB student does help in that it shows colleges you challenged yourself, but if you are getting Bs and Cs, they might think you over-challenged yourself.
Are you taking any HL classes you don’t need? I would say to just take the required 3 HLs and take everything else SL. If math isn’t your thing, you could also consider Math Studies SL instead of regular Math SL if your school offers it, since you don’t plan on pursuing anything that requires a lot of math.

I will be taking HL English, History and Biology. Unfortunately my school does not offer Math Studies, because I would take that over SL Math. Is it worth leaving the entire program? I have heard that Math will get easier after we “get more adjusted” to the program.

Thanks. I’ll check the other forums. I didn’t realize which one I was on.
