My predicted IB diploma score is pretty high. HL Economics 7, SL Physics 7, SL English 6, HL Biology 6, HL Maths 5 and SL French 5 +2/3 points so 38-39 points.

Does the HL maths 5 screw me over, or will the adcoms give me some merit for course rigor since HL maths ****s on anything in the American/ A level system <--(don't want to argue about this point, just need to know whether or not a level 5 is acceptable)

(Apart from AMC, AIME, and the like which is for math whizzes ^^--- not here to discuss these either)

Also don't answer if you don't take the IB since you probably don't understand the nature of the course.

Colleges in US evaluate you based on your current school grades, scores, LORs etc. and your predicted grades have low importance based on how your school’s previous candidates did with respect to their predicted grades.

UK schools on the other hand give you conditional admission based on your predicted grades and it can make a difference based on what you are applying to for a subject vs your predicted grade.

My younger daughter goes to an international school and she is in IB. In speaking with her GC, predicted IB scores are not included unless specifically asked by a college. At another international school, their school profile include predicted IB scores based on grades, A+= 7, A=6…Your GPA and class standing are more important than predicted IB scores. If your grades are good, maybe you want to ask your GC not to send in your scores.

well I have a 4.0 GPA, and my school doesn’t have a class ranking system :P. Thanks for the answers. If asked by a college I would likely fall into the top 10%.

I do IB as well
Most of the time, no one will mind if you have a 5, but because you’re doing Math HL, you’re going to want to make that 5 a 6 instead… The best schools want 6/7’s in HL subjects.
American schools will take it into consideration that your course is hard (the hardest in IB, I think). They love the IB anyway because it’s a rigorous course. Universities in UK, however, might be skeptical.
They’re the home of A levels (one of IB’s biggest rivals), and they accept the IB but they’d rather take A level students with AAAA (4 A’s) than take an IB’er with 775 (the 5 stands out).
Although it’s a tremendous achievement (trust me, I know how hard HL maths is), they want you to make the best of your course, and a 5 is just… “safe”.
