IB from a non-target school

I have a question....
Next year I'm going to the University of Alabama to ultimately double major in Math and Quantitative Finance. I received full rides from a bunch of other southern schools (LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, etc) but none of them are particularly known for their business programs. I also got in (not a full scholarship) to Cornell, Vanderbilt, and a service academy which are much more prestigious and may help in getting an IB internship, but I ultimately chose Bama cuz its really close to home (3 hours) because my mom is really sick and I want to be nearby in case something happens....SO am I sacrificing my career in investment banking by going to Alabama? Do i have a chance of getting an internship at a BB and ultimately a top 5 b-school?

To be honest, it's going to be very tough coming from bama. However, if you dominate in and out of the classroom, network like crazy, and nail every interview, you can still make it happen.

Yes, you are sacrificing your career in investment banking, to a certain extent. On the other hand, I admire you for staying close to your mother.

Bulge brackets pick a certain amount of candidates from each "target school." After they select the target school kids, they pick 1 or 2 people from the "non target" pile for an interview.

Your best bet is to transfer to Cornell if that is possible, they get recruited like crazy. If you can't do that look through your alum network, and look for anyone in the field. I'm sure they would be willing to help out someone from their alma mater.

Also, you need at least a 3.8, I recceomend 4.0....easier said than done, I know. But, if you wanna do IB, you'll find a way.
