IB Further Maths SL

Would obtaining a 7 be seen as very impressive? I mean only about 100 people take it each year, and only about 10-15 get 7s..

I want to apply for economics( Ivies+ top15 schools)

bump 10char

You mean your predicted score? Scores are not released until mid-summer, long after college acceptances have rolled in.

I mean both predicted and also the fact I will have 7 on my junior midyear report and also end of year report…

Yes, a 7 in further is very impressive. (Even more impressive than higher, which is already quite impressive.)

Can it somehow play a role while applying to Ivies/top schools?

^Yes, absolutely. It will be one of many pieces that works towards your acceptance.

No need for sarcasm, what I meant is will it be seen as a major accomplishment?

I wasn’t being sarcastic. Your acceptance will depend on much more than a single IB score, but yes, it will work towards an acceptance. It will be especially beneficial if the rest of your application is math-centered. I imagine it is slightly less impressive than doing well in well-known math competitions.

Are you doing this Junior year? That’s pretty impressive, but further math in and of itself isn’t that impressive in my opinion. It’s nothing major. Just another hard math course.

Hard? Hardest highschool maths course in the world, every year out of 54000 students only 100-120 take it and about 60-70 pass… i have A* from this. Its IB, so 2 year programme, I am doing it now, partly.

Dude, I take I.B. as well.
The only reason a U.S. college will care abou it is to give you college credit and also so that they know that you worked hard in highschool, took hard classes.

I take I.B. math SL as well, it’s not the hardest course. Take an HL math course then we’re talking hard.
Taking full I.B. is even better. It shows that you are a well rounded student becaus eof the CAS requirments and stuff.

Man you have no clue about ib. I take full ib, 7 subjects(including HL maths) and further maths is about 5 times harder than HL maths…

your question states the words “math sl”. If that is so, then no it is not as hard as HL. However, if you are taking HL then you are taking a freakishly hard class. Is furthers math a pilot class? Because i’ve never heard of it. Currently most people only know about 3 pure different math classes.
The whole credit thing is true. Some school’s could care less wether your in I.B. or A.P. It’s all the same to them. Some schools like I.B. but only for credit and others like it just as proof that you did a hard class in highschool.

I’m also a full I.B. student. So yah, I know what i’m talking about.

It would be better if you asked this question on this site
[IB Survival | Helpful Procrastination](http://www.ibsurvival.com/)

it’s full of I.B. grads, and I.B. students who would help you and know what they’re talking about.

Kudos to you for being in I.B.
It’s one heck of a crazy ride. =)

The course is named Further Maths SL, thats what I wrote, google it, it consists of 5 topics out of which, 1 is what Maths HL is. Maths HL is so easy in comparison. No one heard about it because so few students take it. Thanks for the link =)

No problemo. That website will save your life. Trust me.
And i’ll google up further math.
There are tons of classes that like maybe only a few 100 students take. So yah I’ll look it up.
