IB?help!

hi, guys

I have just heard of the IB program

and I just want to know if you take the IB program, and pass it.
then you can take less courses in the universities, and thus graduate one year ahead?

can anyone verify what I said above
thanks in advance

YES! same with AP

o, thank you Newbyreborn

but some universities say that thay may or may not give you credits depend on what courses you take... also the same wiht IB?
and everyone who did IB is really able to graduate exactly one year ahead?

and How much does it cost to do IB?

A lot of American universities and colleges will only give you credit for IB High Level courses, and only if you get a score of 6 or 7 in these courses. IB Standard Level courses will not get you any credits. Having said that, some American universities and colleges will give you sophomore standing during your first year, if you get the diploma with a score of 40 and above.
The IB is treated differently by every institution. You should check the website of the college you are considering.
As for the costs of the IB, you pay to register for the program, and there is a fee for every exam.

Yeah many will only give credit for higher level courses. In order for any student to gain so much credit as to pass a whole year, you would have to get around 40 points on your grades and maintain a 6/7 grade average, which is damn hard.

ok, thank you!!!!

but I won't do the IB next year, for I missed the register date.

You can only do the IB diploma in your last two years of high school. All IB HL courses are a two-year program that culminates in an IB exam.

One girl in our school scored a 40 this year I believe, and she got to place out of a ton of classes in college. But she just decided to replace those classes with random courses she was interested in ( great idea IMO)

yes it is very dependent on the school. Personally I wouldn't do IB to try and 'skip' classes in uni, I used it as a prep. tool for uni because that is essentially what it is. Intense studying, intense testing. It is finishing your 11/12 year in grade 11 and then doing uni. level courses during your grade 12 year. And it looks good on your app. and can increase your chances of getting into the uni you want to (depending on your courses, natch). I was in diploma IB but then switched down to 2 HL's and 2 SL's (english, history, math, german respectively).

seconded. IB totally prepares you for college in that you learn how to study.
