IB HL or IB SL math? Need some advice on whether or not to switch schedule

Hey everyone

So Ive been taking HL IB math for 3 semesters now, and because of my crazy and intense teacher and my lack of natural talent in math, I've got a solid C in the class. For those of you unfamiliar with IB, the HL class covers Calc and Statistics, mostly. Since I'm not doing well in it, I was considering switching to the SL math class. At the end of high school I will be testing SL regardless, I just wanted to let colleges know I was in the HL class. Do you guys think I should switch? I want to go pre-med in college, and I know math is not a huge focus for that, I believe I only need one year of it.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated,
thanks.

anyone? really need some advice here

Are you a senior then, and is your HL class four semesters long, as most HL classes are? If so it may be best to just grind it out for the last semester. If not and you’re definitely testing at SL I don’t really see the point in staying in HL; if you can get an A in SL it would look much better than your current C. I guess it all kind of depends on how your school works and how the material is taught. If you’ve already learned most of the SL material in your HL class it wouldn’t make much sense to switch now.

My school is funky enough not to offer an HL class; their idea of Math HL is to throw the student in Calc BC and give them a review packet so that they can learn the statistics portion; as a result most kids don’t test at HL if they haven’t had AP Stats.

C is not that bad… but i know my school works with the number system… 1-7 like the real IB exam. If you want to learn math for the sake of learning math, then I say stick it out and just take it. But if you want to achieve the best possible IB score. THen drop to standard.

But a word of advice: I was one of those silly liberal art kids that stuck it out in IB HL math. Just had my exam. I feel like it was the biggest mistake of my life. My classmates and I were in too much shock to cry.
