IB Kids, HELP!

So I gotta start my Extended Essay pretty soon, my dad's been on my ass all summer =/ If I don't at least get a paragraph in the next few days, I swear he will take away my life support, (i.e. iPod, laptop, tv, etc.)

Anyways my subject is history, and I have been planning on investigating the Arab/Israeli conflict. However my advisor said I need to narrow it down, a lot. Problem is, I really don't know how to pinpoint it any further. The IBO wants us to write on something specific right?

So I'm thinking maybe a topic like this, "How does the Arab/Israeli conflict impact or influence U.S. national security?" I know that's still a little broad, but that's all I got so far. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

Also, if you guys maybe wanna start a discussion on what topic you're doing, I think that would be interesting to talk about :]

It needs to be way more in depth than that. Talk about a certain event in the conflict and resulting policy changes or something like that.

So you mean I’ll most likely have to talk about something like the Oslo Accords or the 6 Day War?

Anyone else?

wish i had those worries in my life. >_<

Hmmm. I hate history EEs. I did a lit one about Harry Potter. NAILED IT! We had to start ours junior year and it’s due in October. I need to fix the wording of my thesis a bit and add a paragraph about women stereotype. I think that you should maybe talk about something else. Maybe something that wouldn’t cause for any bias opinion from the reader. Remember that the reader is from anyone in the world. Wrong nation/person and you get an E… I recommend lit instead (if possible to change at this point). If you want an example, I would gladly send mine  lmao

swim2daend, thanks for the input! well, history is my best subject so I know I could do really well on this topic. I’m not too sure if i could bust out a 20 page essay on a book, like you are :] maybe 5 pages tops, cause I tend to ramble and repeat main points. Lol i don’t know if that made any sense!

Anyways, the main reason why I’m doing this topic is because I will be applying to Georgetown EA in the fall. I think it would look good for SFS because they will see how interested I am in international relations and foreign policy. That’s just my logic anyway :)

What’s your topic by the way? About Harry Potter? That should be interesting!!

Okay come on guys, you’re telling me there aren’t ANY IB kids on here wasting time like me? :]

I’m not an IB kid, but I’m an IB parent. I agree that you have to narrow down your topic a lot. Think about a particular event, or person, or part of the issue to research and discuss. So, for example, you might talk about impacts on the economies of the two nations, or the part education plays, or the role of Christian Arabs, or the conflict over holy sites.

wow, your advising is terrible. they let you go into summer like that?

I still think that you should make a full 360 on your topic. Not to be rude at all! It could work. I’m just afraid with the topic that some bias opinions may be inevitable. i always thought the california gold rush was interesting. My brother did his on salem witch trials. maybe you could come up with something very factual, but argumentative like those topics?? oh, n my thesis was like “The female characters in the Harry Potter series built up Harry for success against Voldemort” I need to fix the wording a bit of tht but thts the general idea haha

I’m going to echo most of what people here have said. I do think that may be a sensitive topic so you may want to consider something else. It appears as if you aren’t too far along so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. In any case, your topic needs to be narrowed down A LOT. Pick a specific event or issue and discuss that. Remember that it has to be something that you can analyze.

Also, what is your school doing? We were required to have rough drafts (cited and everything) by end of May.
