IB MYP. applying for Choate.

Hi, I'm from Thailand and studying in a full IB school. As you might know, the IB grading system is very serious and hard. They don't grade you based on percentage, but there are criterias in which you need to follow. I'm in 8th grade in the MYP programme (g6-10). applying for 9th grade.
My grades this year: scale 1-7
a 7, 3 6s, 3 5s, 2 4s.

I maintained a 5.0-5.8 average throughput middle school.

I speak fluent thai, english, and chinese

Play many sports and musical instruments.
went for tree planting twice.

will my grades hurt my application? Will high SSAT & TOEFL replace the grades? Does being in IB help my application? DO I HAVE A CHANCE FOR CHOATE?

You may get more responses if you put this under chance me—Good Luck in your quest

Being in an IB doesn’t help on it’s own. Fyi, many schools in the US, including public schools, offer the IB even if they’re not a full ‘IB’ school. What’s probably more important, is whether they’re aware of your particular school. Such as, how many kids has your school sent to the boarding schools here in New England?

I don’t know if my school has sent students to New England boarding schools. It has opened for only 10 years. The director of my school is the daughter of the richest person in Thailand. I guess many schools in New England know the family well since they’re very rich. Last year my school had the first graduation class of 2010. There were only about 20 seniors. Some went to Stanford, U Penn, UCLA, Northeastern/western, and many other top colleges.

When you look at where the global economy is going, I predict that in the not so distant future, americans will be looking to send their progeny to schools is Asia, rather than the other way around.

If she’s from D.C.'s family then her connections are likely worth a lot more than most things you could ever put on an application. Being rich, or in her case being REALLY rich, helps.
