IB-only school, should I self-study AP?

I go to an IB-only school, and I'm thinking about self-studying for some AP tests or take some AP classes online/at another school. I'm only a freshman right now though, so I'm not really sure how to go about doing this.. Should I start next year or wait until junior/senior year? How about taking AP classes online - is that a good idea? Is it a good idea to do this as a freshman/sophomore or should I wait a year or two? Should I talk to my counselor? Any information you guys could give me would be really appreciated, since I really don't know anything about this. Oh and sorry if this isn't the right place to post this!

I am not at an IB school(my school has an AP “program” to rival that of the IB program at the other closest high school) but I have been told by my IB friends that although they are in IB chemistry, they still take the AP chemistry exam. I dunno if it goes like that in other classes but it shows then that you can do AP while in IB.

I am not exactly too familiar with IB and all but I know at the IB high school, they took AP human geo in freshman year. So did I at our high school’s AP “program”. AP is doable in freshman year.

even in 8th grade apparently. The year after I left my middle school, they offered AP human geography… haha… I think there was 8 kids in the class or so. .tons had dropped out. by the end, all passed with 3’s i think one person got a 4 but then again, look at all that dropped out. so they took it off the following year.

You should take AP classes online only if you have the work ethic and motivation to do so.

I know this is really really really late, but thank you so much for the reply! Yeah, I’ve heard about other kids taking IB and AP classes freshman year, as well as doubling up on science and I’m just like… uhh.

Anyways, I definitely think I have what it takes to take AP classes online. Are they usually taken over the summer? Because I don’t think I’d be able to handle taking an extra AP class during the school year… but who knows. I could also take a class at a local community college, right? Do local community colleges offer AP classes over the summer? Thanks again for the help!

bump bump?

At my school we have both an IB and AP program. IB students take both the IB and AP exams for their subjects, so I think if you did a little extra studying around exam time you could just take both exams. That means you would only be able to take AP exams for what you are taking in IB. I’ve never heard of community colleges offering AP classes over the summer but you could take some dual enrollment classes over the summer for college credit  IB/AP/dual enrollment must look crazy on a transcript. I’m not sure if you could take AP classes online during the summer. Someone in my class is taking AP stats online this year and they hate it and have like less than a 10%. They have no motivation to do anything since it’s online. This is somone who got 2200+ on their first SAT without studying, so make sure you have the will power to do it.
