IB or AP?

I'm an 8th grader now, but I was wondering if I should do the IB program or take AP classes in high school. Right now I'm in 3 honors classes, and in 9th grade math. If you are in, or have been in the IB program I would like to know more about it. Is it really hard? Can you fit sports in your schedule with all that homework? Is the IB program worth the extra work? Is the IB program better than taking AP classes? Can you earn college credit through the IB program?

IB student here.

If you want a nifty IB Diploma, I would say go for the IB route. If you’re up to do a little extra work and write some more essays then go for it.

Now, here’s what’s tricky with the diploma: You have no clue as to whether or not you’ve received it AFTER you’ve been accepted to college. For this reason, many believe that the IB Diploma is virtually meaningless. I myself am not a diploma student so technically i’m just in it for the rigorous courses.

And yes, as crazy as it sounds you can fit extracurriculars into your schedule if you go the IB route (even if you’re a diploma candidate). I am president of 3 clubs, captain of the football team, play baseball, do band/choir, have 100 hospital volunteer hours, and work at the family business 25 hours/wk.

Yes, there are IB tests where if you score high enough, your college may just give you credit.

tl;dr If you want the diploma, go IB. If not, it’s pretty much the same thing (I have heard that colleges like IB better though).
