IB Program?

Hi, this is my first post here, sorry if it is in the wrong spot. I am in grade 10 and my high school is getting the IB program starting next year. After many questions, I have discovered that in doing IB, I only get to take 2 sciences. I want to enter the field of medecine and feel this is a kind of a bummer. But I do want to go to the United States for University (I'm from Canada) and my teachers say that this would be a good choice. My question is, is it better to do IB and only have the 2 sciences, or not to do IB and take all of them?

Well from what I know of the IB program you’d be better off taking only two intense IB science courses that would count towards college credit than taking all of your HS level ones. The thing with the IB program, assuming you do well, is that you’ll prolly be accepted to a better college which could open up more doors for you when you decided to apply to med school, or whatever you decide.
Good luck!

What options to you have for science with IB? How many are offered?

What options do you have without it?

Is there the possibility of not doing full IB? That way you could take a bunch of IB science classes and skip, say, TOK and foreign language or something.

Thanks for answering

The sciences offered are chemistry and biology and there isn’t a way to take half IB at my school.
Without IB, I would take physics, Chem, Bio, BioTech and then for math, there are Calculus and Functions.

That’s why I was wondering, wouldn’t it be better to take all of these rather than just the two?

IB is awesome. It will prep you so well for university. I would take it if I were you, but that is just my opinion.

Consult a guidance counc., your parents, and teachers before you make a decision.

Haha I’m taking IB next year too. Except I’m alright with just one science (either bio or chem). What I wish is that my school provided more group 3 classes available.

have you thought of supplementing your courses with an online course so you could do full IB plus a science class of interest? Or wait until summer and take one or two?

Trust me, there are plenty of people who do the IB and go on to med school. Take two sciences at IB and take any more courses you need in college.

Thanks for the answers! :D

I think that taking the courses in the summer could work, but I don’t have to decide until February. The one thing I Loooovvee about the IB program is that it has good mentors. My high school has such BAD guidance.

What is your math track? like what track are you going in?
