The reading assignments we are seeing in Pre IB and IB classes have been very dark and depressing; from the novels to the short stories, poetry and essays they've been required to read. From what I hear, next year (Junior yr) may be a bit more of a mix, but still very heavy on the doom and gloom.
I'd like to know how much of this is required for the IB program and how much is just teacher/school selected. I haven't been able to find a source that gives me this information.
Are the reading assignments similar in your IB program? Do you know of a link for info on this?

Thank you!

Every year the IBO releases a list of prescribed book titles for IB English classes. There are usually around 200 titles. Each IB English teacher is free to chose any novels from that list to teach for the next two years. A modified version of the list is submitted every year. The last link that texaspg posted is an official list of prescribed book titles from one year. It should still give you a pretty good idea of the style of the available books.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I don’t know why it is so hard to find that list posted from IBO itself. I am glad you found a school that posts it!

Yeah the last link was pretty good in terms of an idea of what books that will be read. I saw 7 out of the 9 books I have read this year including summer reading and 2 books I read in Pre-IB. And it’s really up to your teacher what you read, they do make the syllabus remember and should follow it.

It may be depressing, having taken and passed IB English HL myself. However, it’s likely if she takes ANY type of english/history/honors seminar type classes in college, it’ll only get more depressing.
