I have some questions about the admission requirements for Economics Major in Cornell. I am an IB student. I would like to know the minimum IB points for admission. And I would also like to know if higher-level math is required for admission. If not required, will taking standard-level math be a serious disadvantage? If i take HL math i might get a 5 or less, but i am sure that i will get a 7 in SL.

i'm also an IB student and got in ED to CALS.
i don't think you will get a clear answer to your question, simply because NO school specifically indicates the MINIMUM points for admission
i also think that Econ major in CAS is not special in any way as to require a terribly high predicted (e.g. 40+), nor a specific course (i.e. math HL)

T_T i'm in math HL too. although the grade might suffer (in comparison to SL), i think Cornell will recognize the challenging nature of the course...frankly, i think math SL is a joke...
however, i'm guessing that an Econ major requires a strong background in math (i suggest you pull it up to a 6

There are no requirements for admission. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do HL, you won't get your scores until the summer after you graduate, long after you already received your admission. Still, taking as many HLs as possible would look good on your application, and the only down side of not doing well is not getting advanced credit.

so your are in Year1 of IB
i agree with RenTheSecond in that you should take many HLs as possible, since Cornell probably knows that IB requires at least 3 HLs
if you are really interested in econ, i would suggest math HL
however, you should be confident to get a 6 (seriously IMO!)
