hey I was wondering if anyone here could clarify for me the importance of IB tests in the college application process?
Specifically, I took 2 SL tests this past may (I'm a rising senior) and bombed one of them...so when I apply to colleges in the fall would I still be obligated to report them? or is it alright for me not to report them?

bump…

I’m in the AP Program but both of my older brothers went through the IB program. My oldest brother got like a 5 on his IB Calc Exam, or something like that, and he didn’t want to report it so he opted not to send it. I think it’s optional whether or not you want to send it but it’s based more on whether you want credit or not. If you want credit, you usually send the scores, if not I don’t think you have to. Granted, my brother graduated in 2006. Rules might have changed.

thanks for responding
yea that’s the impression I’m under as well especially since the only tests from IB that counts for credit are the HL (higher level) ones which I take next year

however those I DO want to submit in order to be exempt
so I guess what I really want to know is…

if I choose not to self report my abysmal SL score and instead send everything in when I get into the college, is it possible that they will rescind offer because of that score?

thanks for input

bump =P =P

Well, my brother choose to go through the admissions office after he had gotten accepted. However, there is a catch. The admissions office at select unversities are less lenient towards accepting credits that aren’t reported alongside the application. My brother took around twelve IB classes and only got credit for 1, that was English. My other brother reported all of his IB classes and ended up getting way more credit. However, if you’re not trying to get into a top 25 school, one bad IB score will not deter your admission to the school.

There’s something called the sin of omission When things that should be there are not, I would suspect the worst but I’m no AdCom. Should ask your couselor or the college rep for you region.

I don’t think you HAVE to report it.

I took 2 ib sl exams this year too (THANK GOD I’m dropping IB next year). I passed both of them anyways, but it won’t be any use to me anyhow.

But then yeah, if you bombed one test wouldn’t it be hard to get your diploma then?

ok then
I think I’m just gonna report AP scores for credit since I took those as well and seeing as SL exams don’t exempt me for crap I’m just gonna try harder on the HL ones

Rated R: thanks for concern, but I’m pretty sure I can still get the diploma…just 16 more points to earn on 4 exams which is basically a 4/5 on each one which I believe is definitely possible

another question =D
will exam scores (AP or IB) show up on my transcript when I apply to colleges?

I can only speak regarding AP exams, but on the Common App, it asks you to list the exams you’ve taken, your scores, and exams you’re planning to take next year.

Your school will send your transcript so colleges will see what AP classes you took, so not reporting a score on the Common App will just make admissions officers wonder why you took the class and not the test, or why you didn’t report your test score.

hmmm
I thought that it wasn’t mandatory to take a corresponding AP test along with the class. Aren’t AP tests merely used for placement purposes?

I have a full AP/IB schedule; therefore, taking every single AP test for each AP class I’m taking would cost hundreds of dollars =.=
