Will a 5 on an IB standard level history exam look bad on my application? What is an IB 5 equivalent to in terms of AP grades?

I’ll just take a wild guess here

IB/AP

7/5
5-6/4
4/3
2-3/2
1/1

Does that look reasonable? There wasn’t an equivalency table that I could find.

Since it is very hard to get a 7 on an IB test in some subjects more than others and the results change from year to year, a 5 is not horrible. According to last years graph a 5 was given to 31 percent of the students but only 16 percent got 6’s and only 3 percent got 7’s.

Most colleges do not award college credit for sl level IB classes. Those that do are usually not tier 1 schools but those that due award credit for sl classes will count a 5 and award credit. You need to check each college for their policy.

Starting on page 28 are the results for each test from last year.

Thanks for answering momof3greatgirls (thanks for the link, too) and CantConcentrate.

AP tests are different in their range of scores. For example about 50% of Calculus AB test takers score a 5 but only 20% of chemistry test takers score a 5.
On an easy test:
6-7=5
5-6=4
4 (lowest “passing” grade) = 3
etc etc

On a harder test,
7=5
5-6=4
4=3
