hi
im an ib student from india. next year im going to start applying to colleges and wanted to get a headstart. does anyone know if taking the ib really helps. and what would be the minimum score to get into say columbia uni(my dream school). would a 35-36 be good enough? or do they only accept people with 38 or above. i really want to do the journalism program there and if anyone knows anything about this could they please reply soon- id really appreciate it.
thanks. :)

35-36 is really pushing it dude.

The only people I've known getting into Ivy league schools with below a 40 have been applicants with strong hooks (rich, or recruited athletes etc.). Especially as an international student, I'm going to say you'd want something like a 41-43 at least, to give yourself a decent chance - 35-36, or even 38, are definitely on the low end.

35/36 is definetely not enough for columbia. You may still be able to get into prestigious liberal arts schools, but for a college like columbia where loads of people apply with 40+ points, 35/36 is seen as a mediocre score in comparision. Plus, since you are an international student, it'll be harder for you to get in anyway. So ideally you should aim to get 42/43.

.get a 45.

If you can, get a 46.

Oh yeah, all the above options are impossible.

Apply elsewhere or apply for the hell of it - it won't hurt, right?

This is all semiBS.There is no minimum score. Plus, usually, you don't even know your IB scores by the time you apply, so all the universities get is your predicted score, which can easily be over 40 if your teachers consider you a good student. Even if it's below 40, what matters most is the fact that you're taking the IB, combined with your regular grades and SAT scores. If you have high SATs and grades, but for some reason your predicted IB score is below 40, I would say you're still a competitive candidate.

Plus, I know plenty of international students at Ivy league schools who got 33-38 points in the end.

Which journalism program do you mean? You can't major in journalism at Columiba, as far as I know.
