IB Scores for Top Universities

Hey guys,

I'm starting the IB program next year and I was just wondering what a good predicted IB score is for the Ivies or Ivy-tier schools.

I've read somewhere that a 39 would be considered low for a school like Yale, but don't only 4% of all candidates for the IB program receive 40+?

Thanks in advance (:

Ok… A 39/42 predicted is looked upon well by all schools including HYP. A 37+ is really recommended.

If you get a 39/42 predicted or a 41/45 predicted you’re set for top schools. Anything higher is just a bonus, except of course if it’s 44 or 45.

Thanks HK. Are you a rising senior in the IB program?

Indeed, I am.

Oh okay. I was just wondering about how the predicted IB scores work… so how do teachers predict them exactly? Sorry I’m still pretty new to IB :S

They analyze your performance during the first year. Many times they give you an end of year test, either on everything you have learnt so far or on a complete past paper (they factor in the idea that you haven’t studied everything on the test).

My school used tests as a major factor, though there were others, to get me a predicted 44/45. Hopefully I can push it to 45.
