I am currently a sophomore and this year I am taking geometry and advanced algebra. I originally planned on taking Pre Calculus next year since math is not my best subject and I am already planning on taking 2 IB classes next year (HL Lang and SL Bio) but today my algebra teacher recommended me for IB SL Math. I’ve had an A in algebra and geometry all year. Geometry is really easy, but for algebra, I freak out and study all night before a test. My questions are how hard is IB SL compared to Pre Calculus and Advanced Algebra and what would you recommend!
IB math SL includes more topics than pre-calculus. Which may be to your liking, since you don’t like algebra much.
The full course is about 1/4 algebra related, 1/4 trigonometry and geometry related 1/4 applied calculus related 1/4 statistics and probability. Focus is on application.
If you’re worried about the coursework and not being able to maintain a good grade, there are many good online resources out there. You can check Khan Academy or search the topic on YouTube.
I’d personally talk to your teacher about your concerns.
This can vary by school. At my kid’s school the hardest track is through precalc to calc & hl math. The middle road is math sl. Your teacher knows you and the different classes best.
