My math class is causing me a lot of anxiety.

My grade right now is a C-. I have a quiz, a test, and a final left. If I do exceptionally on all of them I will be at a B. If I get a B, I will have a 3.852 and be able to manage a 3.905 by the end of 2nd quarter next year. If I do that, I will get into dual-enrollment and my life will be forever perfect.

I really really need a B. I'll do pretty much anything. Study 4 hours a day. What should I do? I mean, I would study more, but I don't really know how. So any advice at all is appreciated. Even advice on how to deal with not meeting my goal. Thanks.

The key is not studying longer, but studying "smarter." What is causing you to lose marks? Is it stupid mistakes? Is it a lack of understanding of the material? Try to meet with your teacher outside of class (do you have tutorials?) to go over the stuff you don't really understand. Do you understand the material, but need to become quicker at solving problems? Do more practice problems then.

Tutor with successful classmates and with your teacher. Both weekly or biweekly+, depending on how poorly prepared you feel. A lot of math is confidence--you've got to work lots of problems and then you figure out that most are the same, especially on unit tests.

Obviously studying is the key. But what are you having trouble with? IB math studies is pretty simple material if you review the main concepts...

I'm a freshman, never taken Alg II xD. Any other tips?

At least its not methods :)

I took that class last year. I thought it was fairly easy, but I suppose it depends on the teacher? Is she really tough on you guys or Did you do well on your IA? I know my teacher counted it for our points.

Stay after school for some extra help. Teachers remember students who get extra help, and the brownie points can help boost your grade. Or I'd suggest taking some outside tutoring. I took some Sylvan learning classes for math so I could do Algebra, which I never did. The commercials for that program are really cheesy, but the extra math work helped.

^^ Really? It looks above my level. Now I have a B because I got an A on the last test ^_^. Luckily it was a topic that I understood.. you know how Math Studies jumps from topic to topic. This topic should be okay too. Then I'll study a ton for the final and hopefully maintain the B.

Ask a really smart/helpful friend to help you out. Knowing what to do is like 75% of the answer.

You know, I use to think I understood math. Then I started learning calculus. You've never really accomplished anything until you've started calculus...

The derivative is the slope of a tangent line. One of the few things that will stay with me forever :(.
