here's the situation:
I'm in an IB Spanish SL class and have already signed up to take the SL exam.
I originally was planning on additionally taking AP Spanish exam since SL usually gets no credit.
Now I found out I have the option of taking HL instead of SL (small fee charge).

I don't know if I should take IB SL + AP or IB HL

Is either harder to do well on or easier to get credit for? I'm a nonnative speaker who has taken spanish for 5 years.
Any other advice is appreciated.
Also, are there IB review books like AP ones - eg princeton review for ap? any links to practice?

I’ve heard Spanish HL is pretty difficult if you’re not a native speaker. I went the SL + AP route as my Spanish isn’t very strong. If you think you can get the credit then go for it but I personally think SL + AP is a safer bet.

thanks for the advice,
does anyone know how to prepare for IB exams? I cant find any review books like the ones for AP exams

also, do you know what the difference between SL and HL are?
I can’t seem to find these answers online… and I have done a fair share of googling.

wait, do you mean like differences between SL & HL Spanish?

And look up IB study guide for X subject. They have them for bio. I don’t think there are review ones like AP exams…the books would be HUGE! hahaha & IB isnt really an American thing.

It depends what level Spanish you are talking about. There is Spanish A2- which is difficult if you are not a native speaker because it is literature based. Spanish B is a challenge, but more moderate for the learning student. AB Initio is literally, from the beginning and the most basic course.

I know the SL at my school is Spanish B, so if there’s an HL for B then that’s probably it, not sure though.
I know the HL has 1 extra read/answer questions section and a 400 word essay rather than 200, but are the readings and essay questions the same between the SL and HL? and the HL is just graded more harshly, or are they completely different?
see, if the HL doesn’t have a book, i feel like it will be easier to go the AP route since I could study what I need to know from the review books.

I don’t have any experience, but this is what my teacher told me. I got a 4 on the AP language test ( but i fell asleep. ■■■) and my teacher estimated I would get at least a 6 on the HL Spanish test. If you are confident in your spanish, you should do fine. What score are you shooting for? No one in my program, literally no one, has not passed it and we have some scrubs in my class.

I’m pretty sure most of the colleges I’m applying to only give credit for 5 on AP or 7 on IB HL, unfortunately.
^hopeful2b_yank3e thanks, that makes me feel more sure… i think HL is the route I will go since its 1 test versus 2 tests and also IB tests have a different focus than AP
I am just worried about having studying materials geared specifically toward the IB HL test now.
