IB Students

Where do you find the time? I barely have enough time for 3. That means you're doing 6 HL worth of internal assessment.

Yeh.. that is rather crazy...

All my IAs are finished :) JOY!!!!

I just have french orals left.. Last week I finished my part 2 english oral and TOK essay!!!!!

I want IB to end sooo bad lol..

Actually, 7 HLs worth..haha I'm taking an extra certificate in addition to the diploma.

A lot of all-nighters, lunch-time typing, and last minute cramming!

I'm just mainly annoyed because I'm forced to do my World Literature 2 (because it still counts as a class grade) as well as biology internal assessments and things when they won't count for me.

I think my school doesn't do as many IAs as others. We tend to go for the bare minimum (except in the sciences), haha, and I heard at other schools they make students do a lot then send in the best ones.

We get assigned about five or six math IAs and only send off three (or maybe two?), but I think that's the only one we over IA in. Can you imagine having to write two TOK essays or two World Area Studies IAs? Ugh.

But even at a bare minimum, 6(7) HLs is a ton of work! Are those classes AP/IBs? In other words, at the end of the year are you prepared to take the AP and the IB?

Seven HL ?!! Incidentally, has anyone else done the Group 4 Project yet?

I did Group 4 last year. Our broad category was the environment, and my group decided to study the bathroom. Physics kids looked at sound and reverb and water splashing or something like that. Chem kids looked at the cleaning supplies, and us Bio kids looked at bacteria and germs and stuff. My personal section was the importance of handwashing. We actually went into the bathrooms during passing periods to count the number of people who washed their hands.

I actually had fun with Group 4. A quick tip: our group presented before another one in the morning. We had gone in the week before to upload our powerpoint and make sure that everything worked. The group after us didn't, couldn't get their powerpoint to load until their presentation was halfway over, didn't finish in the time alloted, and consequently didn't do so well gradewise.

Yeah, I'm taking 7 IBs at the end of this year. Out of curiosity, which IBs are you guys testing in HL and SL? For me:

HL: Math, Physics, Economics, History, French
SL: Biology, English

We sort of had a senior class trip to do our group 4 this year. It was so fun, one of my favorite high school experiences! We went to this special research center in an island off the coast of Michigan (it's mostly used by Central Michigan University students) and it was so amazing! We played beach volleyball, made s'mores around a campfire, went swimming, etc. People went to all different habitats (sand dunes, acidic bog, marsh, beach, forest) and conducted experiments there. It was easiest for biology people. Most chemistry students ended up boiling bark or testing minerals in river water, and for physics we measured spring force in branches, flew kites, noted falling leaves, etc.

Yeah, I know the IB. Full Diploma candidate here. I'm procrastinating right now. (GAH, I don't WANT to do my TOK essay!)

Whoa. 7 HL's? Is that possible? Kudos to you, chatterjoy, for handling all that.

At my school, we do the IB Diploma hardcore. You're not even allowed to take more than 4 HL's, and if you do, you have to get a bunch of paper signed, proving you're responsible and stuff. Yeah, I've done group 4. For both Biology and Chemistry. I liked it actually...I found it fun. I love science...wish I had taken Physics SL as well. If I make it to Yale crosses fingers I'd be one of those folks climbing Science Hill every day.

HL: English, Biology, Chemistry, Economics
SL: Math Methods, Spanish

HL:Chemistry, Biology, English, History
SL: Math Methods (last year), Psychology (last year), German

I've just started my Group 4. We're testing pond water for trace minerals and pollution (chemistry) and studying the effects the contaminants have on the organisms (biology). I'll be a Science Hill person as well (hopefully). I'm just glad I took AP Physics instead of Physics HL...

Hl Chem, Bio, Math
Sl Econ, English, French

I'm going to fail for HL economics! We haven't had a teacher in...don't remember how long. And the substitute openly admits that he has no plan for us so we should just teach ourselves. oy...

well econ ain't that difficult. look up IBNOtes on google... there are some sweet site... the Pearson site has sweet notes...

btw, what books do you guys use for Economics? Our book was the 'official' IB one, but it's so old and full of mistakes! Written by some English man...it's orange with a big eye on the front.

Thanks davidrune for the suggestion! We do have a lot of extra time to review...and we really need it.

Yay! Now printing my EE in triplicate. Tomorrow's turn in day, and it's all over!

don't you LOVE how much paper it wastes?

hahahaa yeh i know.. geez the EE drained my paper supplies at homeee!!

bump... that's right.

ya i take the IB
it is by far better than the AP program, in my opinion. I have numerous friends and a sibling who took APs and so I've gotten a good idea about how the programs compare.
IB is also being recognized as a better curiculum by universities now, namely stanford, for example.

Me too. HL: Math, Economics, English, History
SL: French, Bio

PS w/o ee/tok 41, although how I'm gonna get a 6 on math I don't know! EE done, TOK started. Any stats on IB students and acceptances?
