Does IB impacts your chances to get a higher class rank psitively or negatively? Assuming that AP and IB have same GPA weight.
I’m pretty sure class rank is calculated just based on GPA. So if your school ranks AP and IB the same, then they’ll carry the same weight. If you want to climb in class rank, then take the class with more weight and (hopefully) get an A.
The IB program is definitely more rigorous than taking AP classes, unless you take an insane amount of AP’s each year. In that respect, IB = lower class rank. However, most of my high school’s valedictorians over the years were IB students, even though IB classes carry the same weight as AP classes. Basically, IB students generally have worse grades, but the extremely motivated IB students somehow find a way to beat the AP students in class rank. At least that’s the case here.
@Argonian183 that’s quite interesting. At my school the top 30 in my class are all IB students out of 600+ students
Isn’t it easier to pile up lots of AP courses instead of taking too many IB exams and writing essays? One can use that time to build EC’s.
