I have the opportunity to go to an International Baclorette (IB) school or a regular school that offers AP classes. Which program give you a better chance in getting into UPenn, Harvard, or other ivies?

Take a look at which AP and IB Higher Level courses are offered at the schools and see how well they match your academic interests. And try to find out how well students do in AP or IB Higher Level tests after taking the courses at each school.

International Bachelorette is a great term. It is as overhyped as the reality TV show it … could be. For Penn and Harvard, it won’t do anymore than a standard advanced program. The IB is mostly helpful as a GPA boosting crutch for colleges that have simplistic admission systems based on ranks. Think Texas.

And, fwiw, many find the accumulation of busywork harder to swallow in the senior year. But then many find the trivial requirement to write a medium length essay too taxing.

IB is no panacea, and often a pretty faddish nuisance.
