I am a junior in high school and was wondering if anyone had advice on taking AP tests or IB tests. My school offers both and I want to know if one is preferred over the other at the academy. I understand the minimum scores that are needed to ‘test out’ of each subject, but does anyone have a more personal view on which is better for preparing for USAFA?

I only did AP. My friend who is also doing well here did IB. Either program will get you what you need.

I only did AP. My old roommate did an entire IB program. I think they focused on literature, humanities, and the arts a lot mroe than my (limited) AP courses did. That might have just been his school though.

How does the Academy view dual enrollment programs (where one actually enrolls in a local U)?

Positively, as long as grades stay good. I did dual enrollment at a local community college my junior and senior years of HS. If you can though, do it at an actual 4-year university, since you can't usually get validation credit through classes at a 2-year university.

Yes, my kids have been enrolled at the local U for two full years and will graduate with 42 credits. It is a regular private U - Div 1 sports and even doctoral programs!

But I didn't know that about the 2 year college; I'll pass that on.

Yeah, I know the only dual enrollment my school offered was through a 2-yr community college and the academy will not transfer any of my credits so I have to take english over again, and take some AP tests to validate calculus (I hope)
