IB vs. AP?

Do most colleges have a preference of which they prefer IB or AP? If so which one? By the way I'm AP.

I’m no expert on the difference between the two (I’m an IB Diploma student right now) but when I look around college websites, it seems to be a much easier to get credit for AP classes than IB classes simply because most colleges (that I’ve looked at at least) only take HL (Higher Level) scores instead of all IB scores while they will take all AP test scores (since AP classes are all one level (I think) instead of IB where there are two levels).

Also (to me) it seems like it’s easier to get credit in AP tests than IB tests because they seem to take a lower score for AP exams than IB. (I’ve usually seen AP 3 out of 5 for credit and then IB 5 out of 7 for credit.)

Don’t quote me on this, but that seems to be what I see when I’ve been looking around.

I’m AP too! But I don’t know which one they prefer. Isn’t AP more common?

Your right, I’ve seen AP a lot more than I’ve seen stuff about IB. I figured that they were probobly about equal (obviously not as much in different subjects). I agree about the easier to get credit for AP part, but I hve found that not very many (about half) of colleges take 3s as credit. Thanks for your answers.

AP is more common because it’s been around longer. AP Scores are more accepted than IB scores as well. However, as an IB Diploma kid, I’m biased to say colleges should look at IB with more weight. Either way, AP is more commonly accepted than IB, but IB is becoming more accepted too nowadays. As for preference, colleges look at both as a “higher level” learning experiences = aka. kudos.

There are soooooo many threads with this topic. Next time, try a search.

Thanks for your imput hjlee.
